Yeah the living conditions leave much to be desired, thats why I prefer to live off post when possible. The equipment you use in the Army has everything to do with what unit you are in. Some units have more money because of their mission. For example when I was in Germany most of the vehicles were older then the soldiers that were crew members on them. It was all equipment that my previous units had turned in 10 years prior. To add insult to injury the single soldier barracks were the same ones that Hitlers soldiers stayed in back in WWII.

Here at FT Sill almost all of the barracks are no more then 10 years old most them are even newer then that. Most of their equipment is pretty new too, and the older equipment they do have, has been retrofitted within the last 3 years.

I assume you're in the Air Force, keep in mind that the Air Force is in the middle of a major draw down right now. I am sure that is affecting a lot of things. Hell they can't even figure out which uniform to wear.

Yeah, you're right, I'm in the AF. I'll luckily never have to touch the ABU's though, since I separate in August and me and my wife are *hopefully* going to move to the Denver area if my prospect job pans out. As for the draw-down; yeah force shaping has taken its toll on my unit, and as a matter of fact, my airframe (the MH-53) is being phased out of the inventory and being 'replaced' by the CV-22. What a piece of garbage that thing is...they sent me to the school in New River, NC and to be honest, I'm not even remotely impressed. So that's a huge contributing factor in our lack of funds for new equipment. I decided to cut my losses since I'm locked into being transferred to the V-22; so I got my A&P certification and I'm going to go work on brand new helicopters for 3x the money.

If I had it to do all over again I would, without a doubt; but it's definitely time to start a new chapter in my life.
