Default Re: My first purchase from NewEgg!

I let the wife know about "most" of my purchases... the rest are made with my money that I make on the side from whatever like my Christmas side job so she tends to not ask or if she does I tell her.... not like I am smuggling in some rare poisonous flowers or something

Thanks HL and Corsair!

No offense, but is your wife that ignorant about computers?

I know mine is

I try to tell her exactly what it is but she just shrugs and says "ok whatever as long as it works"

Don't wanna get too far of topic, but NT systems are designed to do that. And, its a good thing (kinda). If you have the resources available, it will use them. The more RAM you install (From Newegg of course), the more RAM it uses. And the bigger your page file setting should be as well. SO that part is a good thing. You can see real improvements in performance as you install more RAM.

OTOH, Vista is a hog - no way around that. The recommendations mean that a person with a 20GB drive (still common in older laptops) will only have 25% of it left for data....and really, I'm off topic....so...

Congratz Brown on the Memory purchase!

So, for the page file, it's currently set at 2345MB. Vista "recommends" 3067MB... should I change it? I'm leaving it as it is right now.

Typically a setting of ~1.5 your RAM would work fine. Just make sure its always more than your RAM. There are a number of options for the page file. Yours is fine were its at - or you can tweak it up if you wish.

My wife isn't so much "ignorant" rather she doesn't care about technology etc as I do so doesn't bother with trying to learn it. And contrary to my own belief, she understands when I'm bs'ing her and when I'm not :) (mostly).

just remember to tell her when she goes in for the oil change, to change her blinker fluid and grease the air valves and her car will run fine
