| Colonel Calamity | try the deep south where the summer days can get to 95-100ºF PLUS 90% humidity... by the time you step outside the door and have a cigarette lit, you are drenched... well ok maybe after the first real puff but thats the idea... thats why I don't mind large tropical storms or small hurricanes, it may kill the power for a few days but the daytime temps and humidity is perfect since the heat and moisture is stuck in the storm and not in the local air ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | well, everything is here now. we've just got to put everyting where it belongs. there are still a lot of boxes left so i'm going to hold off on taking pics of inside the house but here's a couple of the front. it gets really hot here. its been "cool" here for a couple of days only reaching into the mid-90's but it has been over 100 on a regular basis. its a dry heat and it doesn't get much cooler at night. the temperature dips to around 75 in the early morning around 6 but heats up pretty quickly. we've heard multiple times that this weather is nothing compared to august when it will reach into the 120's. w t f i met my neighbors and they are all pretty nice. the neighborhood is brand new so everyone is pretty much in the same boat except that most of them are from this area. the good thing about living in a small city is that everything is really close. there's no need to jump on a freeway for anything. and you don't have to think very long about where you want to eat out because the choices are limited anyways. i don't know what's going on but it smells like crap at night. the past couple of nights i've been working around the garage and it smells like fertilizer in the air. there are farms close to the city but i'm not sure why it would smell only at night. ok, i've got a few more days of freedom before summer session begins so i'll do some more cleaning up and post more pics of the place. ![]() ![]() |

| Nice house! No trees in the yard? Oh man, those are useful during hot summer days. The smell you get at night is probably manure. I smelled the same thing during my stint at Edwards and Mountain Home AFB where the farmers would spread that crap over their crops and you could smell it quite powerfully on a flightline that reached over 110 degrees during the summer. |

| Well San Diego is only a few hours away as you mentioned. I used to get to El Centro once a year when I worked for a Naval Command in San Diego. I don't know if it is still there but El Centro was home to the National Parachute Test Center years ago (mid to late 70's). I remember it being a nice place. Then too, I always enjoyed the desert areas. We would only be there a day or so as then we went on to Yuma. Ron |
