Maybe all you need is to get your 40-50 core members to pass the word around in as many forums as they can. If it's bodies visiting the site you want, some brass necked advertising (subliminal spamming, let's call it), is the way to go....Get the name out.

You could put the cure for cancer on page 9 of the troubleshoot forum, but if people don't know to look, they wont find it.

That's my advice. I am probably the least Computer savey of the bunch here though.

One more thing....have you thought about some kickass merch ?

A Tshirt with some wicked designs are sure to sell, especially if they appeal to the target audience. Non subscribers would might still buy something.

Well, like me....those 40-50 core members have no friends and no life outside of HL.

As to giving stuff away, I don't think you'd find a site that gives away nearly as much as we do....from raffles, to drawings, to plain giveaways, to Christmas presents.....I give away everything thats not in my personal system or used by staff.

As to you my good man, Welcome to the VIP club, I hope you enjoy hanging out with a bunch of really strange and fun people.....and as to your computer knowledge....we all start somewhere, and thats what makes this place and its members so special....the only word thats banned here is any variation of a certain word thats offensive to new computer people.

Actually we tried that, it got out of control pretty fast...

Pardon my ignorance, but what's this about a reference link? Money off my purchase, or does HL get a bonus for everything I buy, or what?

On another note, I don't even remember how I made it to this site. I was googling something about information on multi-cored processors; ended up here... Haven't found any reasons to leave, and I enjoy frequenting this place.

Joining a forum, and sticking a tinyurl link to this site in a thread, or in any visible profile section, would dangle the carrot as it were. If enough people did it, in sites that are possibly going to have enthusiasts (gaming sites spring immediately to mind) you're going to get some visits.....A PC geek just can't resist a tinyurl :P

oh man.....I strongly suggest not clicking any tinyurls from the guys here.....it used to be a game to see who could get someone to click on the worst link.

yes but it is the fact of how it works that is the very bane of modern advertising and is a major pain... using the center scroll wheel on a mouse and catch an ad and half the time the page refuses to move until you actually click the X to close the ad and continue scrolling.
I prefer the minimal ad setup as it is now but would still like to see some sort of extra ad maybe at the top or bottom of each topic to get a few more adsense clicks...
Maybe hold a once or twice a year raffle of reviewed hardware that isn't being used... but set a minimum of $5 per entry and minimum 50 forums posts or 30 days since join date to enter....

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I'll never sell review samples....I'll give it away, but not sell it. Its a rule I have, and a lot of companies frown on it anyway.....I'd much rather give you guys stuff anyway.

Dude - we need hot chicks with HL shirts on. Gheese - we are housed in Vegas...we should be able to pull this off!

Wait - I forgot - it's Vegas. They all want us to pay.

Still....I can just imagine -

"Today we have the Acme 1200 watt on deck. And what a deck it is! Look at those dual 12v Rails. It's time to hook this unit up to the test bed and see how she purrs!"

Not that I'm into that kind of thing.....but one thing [h] doesn't have is Vegas :)
