Usually it's the advertisement banner either on the main HL site or on the forums here... or at least it used to be. ;)

Capper ... look ... people are consumers ... having a stronger consumer side will increase traffic. If this site needs income then create income based management systems associated with it ... either directly or in tangent. Then you can leverage that traffic by adjusting things to hold on to visitors.

One of the largest and profitable traffic enhancers is "great deals" ... it can be leveraged into a variety of differing and creative ways from "coupon sales" to cutting deals with product purveyors.

People are searching for deals more than reviews, deal searchers may as well search where they also are informed. The deal section here has no traffic leveraging ... and in fact doesn't do much ... I posted a few lately because I know how this works ... but the system isn't set up to be picked up by any searches I suspect nor positioned proper to leverage the traffic.

Basic idea: Gather as many people who visit you with money to spend and serve them and direct their efforts to be benefited. "Give and it will be given you."

I know this site operates that way ... however it needs to go to the next level and write the vision down and establish a business plan that actually works to produce sufficient profits or excess. [Cuts back on wifey comments too]

Don't try re-inventing the wheel ... but check out slick deals, fatwallet and bensbargains, dealdigg and dealmac etc and see what they are doing ... create it better and provide something better ... like "reviews" "better help sections" "a great community" ... or ? [Just better, cheaper, faster, jumps higher, more fun, etc etc ...]

Just GIVE MORE ... than the website down the street ... if you built it they will come ... OK?

It is work ... it is a pain ... you will have to pimp a bit ... but it should easily produce 5-10 grand a month before expenses by year 2.

Hey ... I used to charge about $5K ... for simple stuff like that. [Usually News release proofing and council for Publicly traded Companies]

Been retired since 40 ... so even though I still consult for Multi-Million dollar Corporations and do CEO training sessions ... I usually have them gift to the Charity of my Choice.

Now a serious reply.
I like that this site doesnt have alot of banner adds and doesnt look like the hood of a nascar car. However, I think to create revenue, because lets face it, money makes the world go round, we need more banner adds. MAybe have a deal with corsair or newegg for example, that if you advertise for them they gotta advertise for you. MAybe put a link on their site to come here for help or something. I dont know if this can be done but hey, never hurts to try.

This is true ... create a cash flow environment ... but I do suggest you keep the "Clubroom" clean ... and build clientele who can see the diversification of services and use them ... but also appreciate the beauty of this forum and clarity of thinking it offers and the fun that it allows ... without pimping it out too much.

I'm not talking about making money, per say....I just want to know what you guys want to see.

We used to have a few ads, but I honestly got tired of companies not paying their bill and of people complaining endlessly about 2-3 banner adds....so to me, it just wasn't worth the trouble.

Going back to the game server, I may throw up a donation link for that, as I have it coming out of my PayPal account.

What I was talking about was maybe an add trade with the big companies. Maybe display their adds and in turn they display an add for you. That would get the HL name out there for alot more people to see.

edit* I would also like to see the news again on the front page.

Stuff like that can cause a conflict of interest....its almost like good reviews in exchange for review samples, or giving advertisers preferential treatment in reviews......

Guys, I'm more interested in what you guys want to see on the site....stuff like design, content, review styles, etc
