| The world wouldn't stop if linux went away. Sure it's used on servers but it's not the only server OS. I'm talking desktop PC's not business where there are tech's that take care of the systems and know linux. The desktop in the USA will not go linux anytime soon so it's basically for those that like to tinker and learn a different OS. Most won't go near it and with good reason, they already know a good OS. |

| Colonel Calamity | Windows or OSX is a good OS??? ![]() just because it is the most widely used or used by you does NOT mean it is the best ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Better than any linux. Hell they can't even get many games to play and how long have they been developing it. What a joke. |

| T-Rex | Quote: As far as I am concerned, until Linux can shed it's crappy GTK'ish looks, play my favorite games without having to "emulate" using software such as Wine or the more game-oriented fork known as Cedega, loses some more of it's bash shell and gets decent driver support, I'll be using Windows. | |

| Colonel Calamity | @Joker Hmmm gee I wonder why.... Maybe its because The games are developed for Windows. Not OSX, not Linux. Yet many games and Windows/OSX programs can run just fine under linux due to the programming community enabling support (usually through WinE or Cedega). Yet how many OSX only programs or linux only programs work in Windows??? NONE NOTTA ZIP ZILCH! Some programs have been ported to work in windows (GIMP, iTunes, Safari) but others like the 3D desktop apps and others are still very much linux only. Theres another plus for linux, linux can run SOME windows only programs... yet windows cannot run ANY linux only programs... ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | T-Rex | Still, how is that his problem? The OS should do what you want, not the other way around. If the OS can't do what you want, what good is it? Hey, everyone's free to develop for Linux. Wonder why they don't? Can't be arsed. |

| Colonel Calamity | just saying.... jokers claims of it being crap and belonging in the sewer are unfounded and are his opinion based on a little usage. Thats fine that it is not his preference, but that is not a reason to call it crap... that goes back to my Ford Pinto comment above... just because you drove a Ford Pinto (or several 5 minute drives of various Fords) a few times over a decade is not a reason to hate Ford for life. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Linux = Small potatoes there's just no way around it. Windows doesn't need linux software it already has everything necessary. Linux on the other hand doesn't have everything. Having to use wine to run games may be fine for linux users that are in love with linux but for everyone else who happen to be the majority then it comes up short. Use linux enjoy it but the rest of the world isn't switching to it just because linux users say it's the greatest. |
