| Colonel Calamity | Most people that complain about linux refuse to actually USE it so their view is extremely skewed... oh well hypocrites come in all flavors. If you don't use it then zip the lip ![]() and joker, try using a current 2007-2008 distro, not something from the 90s what was mostly command line... things have changed from the dinosaur days of computers. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | HL's Technomancer | I've ran Ubuntu for a few months, and it was pretty decent. Had it the same mainstream gaming/driver support as Windows I'd be using it now. The only problems I had were no internet connection as my wireless adapter would work some days, and then die for a week before springing back to life. Nothing I did could fix this, not even that NDISwrapper. Another big pain in the ass was GRUB, whoever the hell designed that should be drawn and quartered. Formatting the drive after removing Linux didn't work. GRUB failed to load, couldn't get into Vista until I set an old PATA drive as the first to load from in the BIOS. Then I wiped the drive completely and reformatted to install Vista Ultimate, no dice its like GRUB had spread to very controller board on the drive. Rebuilt the boot manager several times and had to fight with the bootloader many a month until just like week I managed to get rid of it. Still not sure how, all I know is it involved DiskPart and a few beers. |

| I used ubuntu late last year and it still sucked. So go ahead and use it with the other small percentage of desktop users. |

| Colonel Calamity | GRUB is still buggy, I prefer LILO but sometimes you have no choice... yeah liek that will happen.... some ppl refuse to learn or try something other than one small distro... there is a whole big world.... don't like ubuntu? try the KDE desktop... or try Fedora, or try mandriva or BSD or Debian or SOMETHING. Thats like driving a Ford Pinto and swearing off all Fords because this one 5 minute drive sucked. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! | Functional Alcoholic | Same here, but Grub is still used by default in a lot of distros. |
