| Functional Alcoholic | B 1/19th actually does exist, they just don't have any soldiers in training right now. I didn't figure it out until I looked on the graduation schedule and didn't see B 1-19th on there. I called 1-19th Headquarters and they told me you were in Delta, and gave me the phone number. So I called there to verify that you were actually in that unit and one of the Drill Sergeants answered the phone. I don't think he had a clue who you were but proceed to give me a line of BS. Tell your wife it was very nice to meet her, and if she needs a ride anywhere to call me anytime. Taxis can get expensive. Hey and send those pictures so I can post them here. |

| socket 939 junkie | the first few weeks of AIT is going to be much like the first few weeks of basic. however once you hit gold phase, you gain some freedoms. you'll be able to go around on post (as long as you have a battle buddy) after class. they have this place called the hacienda where you can go online and play some games or cruise the web. you can watch whatever movie they happen to be playing, shoot some pool, watch tv or just snack at the snack bar. also theres a shopette across the street from G Co 232 (when i was there, thats where they sent the broke and going home people) that has an AT&T cyber zone where you can put money on a card to buy time to use the computers there. a barber shop, a pizza place and a burger king can also be found there. as long as your back in your barracks bay by the designated time, you can do what you want on post during the week. just make sure you have a battle buddy or you'll get dropped. you'll also be allowed off post during the weekends where you can see the city and the sights. be sure to visit the mall (its awesome!), the riverwalk and the alamo. the riverwalk is sweet and i really enjoyed it. theres all sorts of restaurants and bars along it that you can visit and grab a beer. i cant remember where exactly or what it was called, but there's a movie theater that serves alcohol while your there. you can even bring it into the theater itself. i got trashed there and it still didnt make fantastic 4 any better :( people will go off post every weekend and get a hotel. if your into parties, someones usually having one when that you can go to but its better to plan your own. just be careful at those parties. stupid shit always seems to happen. they have various amusement parks there as well. theres a schlitterbahn thats pretty close to post. and you can go tubing on one of the rivers in the area, just dont tie the cooler to your foot. you'll sink. other than that, enjoy your time down there. Ft Sam Houston and San Antonio are a blast! (it will probably seem quaint to you being from New York and all, but its still a fun city) i thoroughly enjoyed my time down there and would go back in a heartbeat ![]() Last edited by simple_inhibition; June 27th, 2008 at 11:25. |
