if mine runs good for the first few hours, I let it go and leave it on all the time. Typically if something is wrong, you will notice it in the first hour or so (and usually in the first 5 minutes).

Yeah, I'm not sure what you mean here. The 8600 cards do not require an external power connector, so you should be able to just install the card into the PCI-Express x16 slot and be good to go.
