If you take that into prospective, you've got a double bladed sword. It's the safest bet to remain indoors, if your not out playing militia. But also do you stay inside out of danger when you or your family need supplies and hope/pray help arrives, or do you go out to get them knowing the danger? Remember, that penicillin you just broke into a pharmacy to get with the best intention to save somebody's life is considered looting, or even worse attempting to sell/give to support the local insurgency if you get on the wrong end of a mean MP.

Many Iraqis speak English because it is taught in their school system. Also there is usually an interpreter with you on patrols, not always, but most of the time.

I don't know about now, but when I was in Iraq back in 03-04 we were under orders to destroy all vehicles that were used for the purpose of looting among other things. This let the Iraqis know that there was an immediate consequence for their actions. I have several pictures of us destroying vehicles.

You guys have to keep in mind that things are a lot different in a war zone then most people are used to. Its a totally different set of rules. They are blowing us up with IED's and Suicide bombs, making a big stink about us crushing a car is ridicules.

I do think that destroying their car for stealing wood was a bit extreme, but I have a feeling that there is more to the story then that video shows. I know the only time we ever destroyed cars was if the looters were stealing items that could be used against Coalition forces, for example old artillery rounds to make IEDs, or weapons.

In the beginning of the war that country was in mass chaos. All the Iraqis basically went into survival mode. They were stealing anything and everything they could get their hands on. The Coalition forces had to do anything they could to create some sort of order in the absence of a Government.
