| None of the candidates who'd have a chance or the knowledge to fight terrorism won or came in second. Makes me glad I'm a Canuck! ![]() |

The campaign is actually just getting started...though it has been going for nearly a year, due to Hillary and Barack starting it more than six months before they traditionally do. Candidates have always waited until after Labor Day to announce their candidacies. The media is all about entertainment, and entertainment is about soundbites. Fred Thompson is an entertainer and fully understands the entertainment industry. But, he also isn't a soundbite kind of guy. Every move he has made rubbed the media the wrong way...such as waiting until the traditional time to announce his candidacy. He even missed the first "debate" because it was on the day after his announcement. I think it is that he has decided he is going to run his candidacy his own way, and not how the media wants him to. Maybe he is waiting for the "rising stars" to fall. Guilani already has, pretty much, Romney has stalled, and Huckabee probably has peaked. All four of Thompson's rivals...the above three and McCain are starting to have problems within the party, and all are problems that I personally foresaw in the beginning. (I'm not a prophet, I love politics and pay attention) As I mentioned before, none of them are actually conservatives, and they all have records to prove that. Guliani will resurface, he made the decision to not campaign in Iowa and New Hampshire, but in CA, FL, NY...states with the most electorial votes. He has been off the media map long enough to allow Romney and Huckabee to get all the attention. That probably was a serious mistake. Another mistake is to focus nearly his entire campaign on his 9/11 experience. That has probably gotten him about as far as its going to. The only other thing he really has going for him is his "tough on crime" history. But, he isn't running for governor, mayor, or district attorney. Crime isn't the president's problem. Guilani and Romney both have previously been pro-abortion, but changed their views about the time they decided to run for president. At least a third of the party will not vote for someone that is pro-abortion. It appears that Huckabee won the religion war with Romney, a question of who is the "real Christian". But now he has been tagged "evangelical Christian"...which is the media's new term for what was previously called "religious right". Personally, I think that it is a term intended to turn off a lot of people...to associate Huckabee with the likes of Pat Robertson, Jerry Falwell, and Ralph Reed (former leader of the Christian Coalition). Personally, I'm not so sure that Americans will elect an evangelical preacher to the office. Bush has caught a lot of flack about his beliefs. (of course, it was just part of criticizing everything about him) Huckabee's new problem is this contrived "war" with Rush Limbaugh. It is something totally made up by the media, but it is serving the purpose...to bring out his record as governor of AR, which wasn't all that great. McCain will likely win or place second in New Hampshire, which will give him the boost he has been needing. He is pretty popular with people that haven't decided whether they are democrat or republican, who will be needed to elect a republican in the general election. But, I think that he will be severely attacked for his stance on amnesty for illegal immigrants, along with the rest of his lukewarm senate record. Hopefully, after all this...after the smoke clears...Thompson will surface as the best candidate. Last edited by fstroupe; January 5th, 2008 at 05:26. | |

| Functional Alcoholic | When the Canadian Prime Minister figures out how to keep terrorist from entering the U.S. through Canada you let us know. So you don't have to look it up Canada's Prime Minister is Stephen Harper. Last edited by Hitman; January 5th, 2008 at 06:56. |

| Colonel Calamity | These caucuses are simply a popularity contest... Huckabee won I suspect due to his "tax cutting" and "Christian" stance which conservative people always like. Romney is a flip flopper and they got tired of that with many of the other candidates in the current past few elections. Conservatives love to hate him. Giuliani is a Democrat in Republican clothes and people really dislike people who claim to be tough on crime yet his record shows that crime was on its way back up by the end of his mayoral term, and people are tired of someone who rides on the 9/11 train in voice but not in action. Paul, well he is just a fuckin tool, he likely has the lowest amount of support and the highest level of disapproval among real people. Hackers have managed to spam any poll that has his name in it to appear as if he has overwhelming support to try to get people on the bandwagon. The problem is that these hackers know he knows nothing about technology and will likely let things continue as is (at least the others have stated they will do something about cyber crime). He is one of the few that has stated he will not get tough on cybercrime. Add on top of that his desire to make us an isolationist state will run the economy much further into the ground. McCain is just a loud mouth trying to run on his military record but we all saw how that worked for Kerry... due to his lack of really getting anything done, the liberal state of New Hampshire loves getting this type of person on the conservative ticket to make their liberal candidates looking better. Fred Thompson is the only true conservative on this ticket. He is playing by his rules and not those of the media and I think that once people see where he really is, he will gain much more support and hopfully win the ticket. ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair!
