Yeah, I read the link early this morning. Not all people are ignoring the signs of recession. Just look at the overall market trends. When 2007 was coming to a close I moved every dime Kathy and I have into basically safe investments. We had a good 2007 and I am glad we got out!

The sub-prime mess will linger for months into 2008 even making things worse. The housing market is a disaster. Combine that with everything else and I see a minor recession, I don't quite see depression but I sure as hell see recession. I see maybe a 1/2 point rate cut when the fed meets the end of January but I don't see that helping anymore than the last two 1/4 point cuts.

Yes, it is an election year, however, nothing will happen till November and you won't see a new president till January of 2009.

I am keeping all of my stocks and bonds in aggressive growth funds, because next year it may go down but in 5 years that shit may be sky high. My guy will buy alot for a little and watch my stuff grow....this is all in theory tho I could lose my ass.

Which is actually true. However I figure in our ages. Your 5 years and my 5 years are different.

I plan to retire at 62 and Kathy will retire at 64. I will be 58 next month. We have done well but at my age I am not in a position to gamble as much as I was maybe 10 years ago. I was pushing a little as we were running 50/50 as to relatively safe funds and aggressive funds. I have one IRA I do tinker with. The older I get the less aggressive I am with investments. I screw up at this point and I work a few years longer and I don't plan on working longer.

Looking at some of the individual stock investments we had in the IRA I am glad we got out at the end of 2007. I would have lost a chunk on some.

Actually the Pentagon said its policy has been not to reclaim such bonuses and that a bill the Army sent to one soldier was an isolated case that was reversed.
