1) Verify with host 3 days before trip to finalize details.

2) Call hotel they have reserved to verify reservations and get info to find them myself if need be as well as front desk number.

3) Grab international calling cards

4) We then print out maps of our destination and carry them along with verification letters in my wifes briefcase. (She gets to go on all trips since she is the co-host)

On two trips we had the host forget to send a driver and solved the problem within 5 minutes by calling our hotel and they sent a taxi for us. On one of the other trips the hotel had us booked as two beds, this was our first time alone in 4 years so that was NOT gonna work. My wife had a small fit with the hotel 2 days out of the trip they upgraded us to a deluxe room and gave us a free meal. A big thank you to the Queen "E" in Montreal.

I am willing to bet however that after you get home all the bad will be forgotten and the good is what will be all you recall. Have FUN! You should be in geek heaven, be sure to send us all a post card.
I've been all over the world, and I'm sure this trip won't be that bad....just got off to a bad start. A cranky old man with a cranky old back. The back is always going to be a problem, that I have learned to live with.....no sleep for 48 hours and sitting at an airport waiting for a ride for almost six hours wasn't my ideal beginning to the show though......on to better things

Don't forget to grab some of that low priced software the street vendors sell. China has some great stuff on the streets .

In my experience, things are cheaper in the US for hardware. I know one thing thats pretty cheap in China... massages... its like 20 bucks for an hour... of course happy ending is optional.

We've got a nasty thunderstorm going on right now, so I'm up getting some more work done on articles for next week. I'll be posting an article tonight about my day at Computex, I have some neat meeting set up already and will be sure to see some interesting stuff,
LMAO, this thread is getting funny. A chicken leg is as good as any hamburger. Capper, a piece of bread and French fries is not quite sustenance even for a geek! Eat!

My days for the international travel thing ended about 20+ years ago and I can't say I miss it. Things are better today and communication is sure as hell much improved. There was no email or internet. A telephone call home involved getting an international operator then waiting maybe 20 to 30 min for the call. We did the Pacific twice a year and I am one of those who hates flying! Thank God for scotch and plenty of it.

I always loved Taipei and we would fly CAL (China Air Lines) which back then was a treat from Guam to Taipei. I loved the food in Taipei, in fact I loved the food everywhere. Experiencing the food internationally was a treat I will never forget. The Chinese restaurant in the Grand Hotel was then rated as one of the finest in the world. The squab was great and who cares if it was pidgeon?

Enjoy Capper, then keep writting!

Ron
