Economic stimulus plan

Under the agreement, individual taxpayers would get up to $600 in rebates, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child. In a key concession to Democrats, 35 million families who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.

So I am hoping that means an extra $1800 on top of my expected $3000 refund... that will be nice...

If they want to give the economy a shot in the arm, I think a slightly larger check to everyone would help. Also, I think lowering the price of gas would help.

A $600 check? Let's see...that will make a car payment, or maybe a credit card - then I'll have $150 left. That's a trip to the grocery store, with a little left over... I might end up with $20 or $30 from a stimulus package that's supposed to help bring this nation out of the economic slump that it's in - thanks to Bush, thanks to too high gas prices and thanks to lenders who gave everybody and his brother a home loan, whether he could afford it or not. SubPrime! I say, SubPrime! (Like my Foghorn Leghorn impression? LOL!)

I don't know where they would get even more money to send me an even larger check - thing is, where are they getting the money to send everyone a check in the first place? How do you spend nearly $2 Trillion on wars, ask for more Billions all the time, and then also find cash to send everyone because of huge economic issues caused in part by the money spent on the wars, among other things?

Wait...that $20 or $30 I'd have left over would need to go into my gas tank. So...What economic stimulus are they talking about?

even though the land values are in the dump for the past year, I just got my tax bill and the county is still jacking up the taxes.... so much for that $600 (what it would take to pay off and keep my mortgage payment from jumping too bad)

it passed very quickly and overwhelming support in the House... the now the senate is adding all kinds of crap to it, namely giving these rebates and tax breaks to more rich people... so rather than give it to those that need it, they are trying to add in the rebate to those that make over $150,000 as well but also cut the amount to $500 per person.... what a crock of shit... impeach the senate

It faced a murky future in the Senate, though, where Democrats and Republicans backed a larger package that adds billions of dollars for senior citizens and the unemployed, and shrinks the rebate to $500 for individuals and $1,000 for couples.
