The camera this one replaced was an old 2.1 mega-pixel Sony, it took great pictures. The only issue I ever had with it was not being able to control the shots, or swap out lenses. But like I said, it took great pictures.

I've been using the Canon A510 3.2MP for a while now and love it.

Here is a thread I started some time ago with some pics I've taken with the A510: Look here

Hi Ya Dred

Currently using a Canon EOS 10D I have had for awhile. I love it. I also have a few lenses besides the standard one. We use the Rebel at work and I like it very much. There were some hacks out to upgrade the Rebel to the 10D firmware.

I generally shoot anything and everything I am serious about using RAW format.

I have and use Adobe Photoshop 7 but actually for most quickie stuff I use either JASC Paint Shop Pro 7 or 8. Believe those are now Adobe products.

I had a Nikon Coolpix 990 years ago but love the ability to use different lenses with the digital SLR family.

I like digital photography. I'm not super into it, but it's fun going on walks in the woods with my Olympus C740 UZ

I have a 10D with the 24-85, 50 (f/1.4), and the 75-300 IS. And the 430EX flash. I'm up to about 24,000 frames last I looked.

I rarely shoot in RAW.

I use Irfanview for basic image stuff (free) - IrfanView - Don't forget the plugins. Instructions are included for RAW.

Did you get the 18-55 or the 17-85?

For US$70, I'd highly recommend picking up the 50mm f/1.8. It's a great lens for portraits, landscapes, and low light conditions. Clicky. Unless you're planning to get the 50mm f/1.4, but it is much more $.

Currently have a Canon 24-85, 67 Canon. That I got when I bought the camera. After buying body, a few batteries (spares) a case and other things I was getting low on bucks. LOL. Later I picked up my zoom which is the Canon EF 75-300 1:4-5.6 IS and I like the image stabilizer, great at air shows. The last was a macro EF 100 1:2.8 which I also like. There are a few more I would like. I generally snag a toy like a lens when I have the extra bucks. Overall I do love this camera.

I'm already eye-balling the sites for an extra lens, preferrably a macro lens. Man are some of them expensive.

Looking to take some very close up closeup shots, can anyone recommend a good but not over the top in price, lens for the Rebel XTi?

So far am having a blast, and taking a lot of pictures. Tried to get some
lightning shots as the big storm came through last week. Ended up
with one shot showing the 'glow' from a bolt inside the leading thunderhead and thats it. Thankfully I was using the digital camera,
and not my 35mm film since I took about a hundred shots and only one turned out o.k.

Transfer shot(s), format, new film, I like the digital film much better...

This is one I have and it was a gift from Kathy (my most patient wife). I am clueless as to cost but guessing not cheap (maybe about $300) but not too expensive for a good macro lens:

EOS (SLR) Camera Systems - Macro - Macro Lens - EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM - Canon USA Consumer Products

This is one I want for really fine detailed work and I know this sucker ain't cheap in a $1,400 or more range:

EOS (SLR) Camera Systems - Macro - Macro Lens - EF 180mm f/3.5L Macro USM - Canon USA Consumer Products

I am real happy with the first link. I have also found when it comes to optics it is best to wait and save rather than buy too cheap and regret the quality later.

LOL, I am very familiar with shoot 100 images and like 1 to 5. :)

You could also look at extension tubes. There are some drawbacks (like reduced focusing range) but they are a cheap alternative, and work with nearly any lens.

Make sure you get the new Canon version (II) for your EF-S body.
