How would enlisting factor in any of this? What would be better, enlisting first and then taking up school or just hitting up an academy?

If you want to be a MD, start college first then when you finish your Bachelors degree in pre-med and get accepted to Med school, contact a recruiter for the Military Healthcare program. Each branch is different but the army recruits their Doctors and Nurses through AMEDD. If you get picked up they will pay for Med School and then you will own them, 1 year for every year of school they paid for (4 years in the Army for 4 years of Med School). The Army will also pay you Lieutenant pay while you are in Med school and upon completion you will be a Captain.

Another option to pay for your first 4 years of premed is an ROTC scholarship, you will just have to choose a school that has pre-med and ROTC.

DO NOT GO TO A NORMAL ARMY RECRUITER!!!!!! It's not the same thing.

KUMC is a very good medical school, and worth considering even if it wasn't home.

My brother went there (Radiologist), Ex (Pharmacist), and good friend (PT/Rehab/Sports Theorpy) and all did really well right out of school. I went to the purple one for a year, and was jealous that I didn't get to go to KU.

EXTREMELY EXCELLENT COUNSEL !

Just a note: If you meet the girl of your dreams in college ... just get married ... then your pay in the Military is significantly increased as well ... and off-base living is paid for.
