I've pretty much always had the notion that the show should really be called American Idiot. Every year, it's the same old tripe, the same old theme. It gets boring watching Simon belittle and crush some 14 year old teeny boppers hopes and aspirations. Seriously, how many times can you hear the words "That was terrible" or some variation therof in a terrible Brit (I think) accent?

While we're at it let's get rid of all these so called "Reality TV" shows.

Survivor: No one ever dies so the title is moot.

The Amazing Race: Race across the world while taking side trips to juggle live chickens and dress a midget up in a suit of armor. What the hell that has to do with getting from point A to point B is beyond me. I guess the amazing part is that people actually watch it.

I'm proud to say I don't watch any of them, and have the extra brain cells to prove it.

My wife and I used to watch survivor... In fact probably the first 6 or 7 seasons... It was OK at first but now it is just the same ol' thing over and over...

As far as Idol goes.. .we still watch it. There are a few good and talented people on each season but most shouldn't quit their day jobs. This Sanjaya thing is really pissing me off though. I will not watch the show anymore until he is voted off, he shouldn't even have made the top 12... The good news for all you Idol-haters (Im not a hater or lover) is that if something crazy happens and he actually wins, well that will be the death of the show.. because people like me, who actually watch the show to try make something good out of it, will stop watching it...

For those of you watching the Sanjaya videos online... yeah, he is REALLY THAT BAD! but so many idiots keep calling to vote for him...

Sanjaya should drop himself so that people with real talent can continue on. The BS of this thing has to stop somewhere and quite frankly, I would have thought Sanjaya would have removed himself before now.

The show should be abandoned at once. The first season was OK. Simon, Paula and other dude should be beat about the head and neck with a stick for exploiting people.

I watched about 1 minute of 1 show.

There's a website out there that encourages people to vote for the worst candidate. This website's intent is to put the worst possible person as far into the season as possible. Couple that with Sanjaya's appeal to the little girls and there's a recipe for mockery. I personally think Sanjaya would prefer that boys like him over girls, but that's just me talking.

The singers that come out of AI are, for the large part, very talented and successful music entertainers. While the show was created as entertainment and to make money, the side benefit is that someone who was a burger-flipper, waitress or soldier can eventually end up achieving their dream of being a paid performer.

I think either Lakisha or Melinda will win it this year. Lakisha is better than Melinda IMO, but if she doesn't stop acting and looking like trailer park trash, she's gonna get the boot.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not trying to tell people what they should watch or not watch, I'm basically just complaining that the show promotes an artificial/superficial, plastic, shallow type of attitude. I realize those four words all mean the same thing, but I just have a real problem with people who think that looks is the only thing that matters. I've always been that way, never really one to follow trends or give a damn about what's popular (my long hair and my CD collection is proof of that!). I did enjoy the video I saw of Lakisha's performance, and I'll admit that if the show got more people who were actually good, I might watch it.

slugbug mentioned other "Reality Shows", and I have to say I agree with his point. I've always been a fan of Ozzy's music, but I could think of other things I'd rather look at than him doing his dishes or taking out his trash...
Then there's that "Fear Factor" thing...Does anyone remember a movie called "The Running Man"? I only see these shows getting closer and closer to that concept as time goes by.

If it's not fixed, then don't broke it!

Sanjaya won't remove himself - do you think the guy's got any chance of being somebody without the show?

The problem with that show for me is all the people at the auditions running around saying "THIS IS MY DREAM" and "ALL THEY WANT IS TO WIN AMERICAN IDOL" and "I WANT TO BE A STAR".....

None of them want to work for riches - I want the get rich quick thing, the world on a silver platter. I deserve it, because I'm ME.

And that's just so much bull****. The world is not fair. The world does NOT give freebies - how many of us on here can attest to that?

I would knock my kids (if I had any) into the middle of next Tuesday if their life's dream was to be rich and famous by way of a gimicky show.....no child of mine is going to plan their life on a handout. Because that's all it is.

They sing - and I've heard better singers in any karoke bar - badly, and then they beg the country to love them. If that isn't begging for your life to be given to you then I don't know what is.

I like the show along with about 30 million others. I don't like all the idiots that turn up at the begining but when it gets down to the last 10 or so then the show has some descent talent. Chris Doughtry last year and Blake Lewis this year are good at arranging songs and Melinda Doolittle is a very good singer.

Don't watch it and never did watch it. I have seen better talent in amusement parks from what I have seen. My take is that it is mostly about ratings. Whatever it takes for ratings.
