Ew.... Farve in purple... i'd have to adopt baseball as my new sport, and give up on football entirely.

And then burn my cheesehead.

Well, we had that feeling when KC was playing Elvis and gave the Raiders Bono. Ack, it sucks. And all the teams I had to watch Vinnie Testicles play for...well, I'm not sure if it was painful from remembering him as good, or painful for watching him lurch around like he's lost. But it happens.

Green Bay never said he was wanted back. Green Bay said he would NOT play. Brett Favre gave an ultimatum yesterday to, paraphrased, "put back in, put a helmet on, and welcome me back; or trade me...but I'm playing football this year". Packers replied by saying they still will not play him. How F'n messed up is THAT!? I think the guy is HOF material, and not very far off if my fingers count directly. Piss him off like that, and he'll indeed retire while choosing different colors. It's not the first time (Allen) that that has happened (Spiderman).

Packers are just plain messing it up. Again, watch Aaron. I liked the kid, but he's been sidelined far too long and is already almost old to pick up in game QB action. You just don't sit QB's on the side that long. There's a mess up there.

honestly though, i'd blame it more on favre than the packers. They tried multiple times to make sure he wasn't coming back, up to right before the draft. I doubt they would've drafted 2 QBs if they knew he was coming back. You do realize how much favre is screwing the packers right now. If he is reinstated, his 13mil comes on the cap this year. If he's traded, the packers get hit still with a cap penalty. If they release him, they still get a cap hit. How's this anything but just selfishness on favre's side. Not to mention some dude on ESPN had a great point, if the packers give in to this, they set the precedent that any player can decide what team he/she wants to go to no matter what the circumstances. You can retire then demand a trade?

That's been the rule for a very long time, and it goes both ways. Think "Franchise player". You get stuck with that, you want out quick! When you see a non-draft pick player stuck with that, they're screwing with him. Bears had issues by doing that to Lance Briggs, and KC just gave up probably the best DE in Jared Allen by screwing with him with that label.

So a smart play would have been the Packers slapping the Franchise label on him PRIOR to retirement. They left it open, and he can use it. It's not his fault. It's a Union man. There's no love for the company, just the team and the team mates.

And it's not as drastic as you make it out to be anyways when you look at the paper work:
Quote:
Brett's cap value should technically be $12.8m because he hasn't filed official retirement paperwork. If he waits until after 1 June, the Packers will only count his 2008 PRSB ($800k) and the remaining portion ($600k) will count towards the 2009 cap.
. I do believe that's minimal pay for a QB in the NFL. That's business. If they do as they should and trade, they bite minimal pay and get more in return. You can get freaking 6 players for that guy in one shot...and how many draft picks did KC get this year? <-that's where all the talk about the KC trade stems from. It's a logical business move. That and retirement is good. Do you know that's a big deal...retired players are having huge problems because their team didn't offer very good plans and aren't taken care of.

Some of ya'll still think this is the 1950's football. People don't have to return to the same team because we want them to. It's free agency, and is just as debatable as the Designated Hitter. It's just yet again brought up, like we either have short memories or new to the game. At least the packers owners aren't sitting there saying "I'll never sell the Packers, ever! I love Green Bay!" And then sell the team 3 months after that. This is one player, and he has the ability to come back and play for the same team.

You're not going to play drafted rookies this year...you just don't unless you're a brand new team; so they didn't waste drafts. They can still be signed, they can still sit on the same bench they would without Favre. ESPN didn't set that precidence, it's been like that since like the late 70's man. Many have done it before, and of Favre's fame too. The Packers can play the guy with NO hit, and the hit when trading is beans.

Would you rather have that 3rd string tightend being payed $800K, or trade Favre and get some return for that?

So let me ask you then, will you carry 4 QBs on your team? Because if not those 2 drafted QBs will be wasted. The problem is with Favre making it this public, noone's going to offer anything of value in return. Would you trade Favre for a 6th round pick? Because thats prob what people are going to offer right now. Besides him doing this basically screwed Aaron Rogers, Rogers is gonna be booed the 1st mistake he makes. How's that good for the team again? He's basically holding the team hostage, almost like strahan last year with the giants. Only because its Favre are people willing to look the other way. Let me ask you, if it was Vinny Testaverde asking for the comeback for the Jets, would you do it? Or if lets say Aikman wanted to come back for the Cowboys, would you bench Romo for him?

look at the drafted players from any team... how many of them get cut or sent down to CFL/minors? Most of them...
Aaron Rodgers is a "glass" jaw, he can only take so many hits per game before he has to be sidelined.. versus Favre could take hit after hit and still play with a broken thumb on his throwing hand... so we will see how these 2 drafted QBs do...

No, because neither of them played amazing football last year, like Farve (give or take a few games), did.

Personally, I'd love to see Farve playing in GB next year. I love Farve, and I love GB (which is why there's a green bay stock certificate sitting down in my basement, and why you wont see the Packers getting sold anytime soon. Fan ownership, woohoo!).

On that same note, Rodgers played pretty darn good against the cowboys last year... with the receivers and offense in general the packers had, you don't need to make alot of big plays. Just get the ball to someone and let the magic happen.

But can rodgers make the big game winning plays? Like Farve did against Denver last year, for example. That's my big if for Rodgers, more so than getting injured (although that's a close second).

No matter what happens though, Packers are winning the North this year! Heck, even with Rodgers they can go to the superbowl.

Favre's playin for the public support right now. He hasn't even officially put his request with the league for reinstatement. Also honestly, the packers have to be morons to release him and let him come back to beat them on another NFC team.

He hasn't even officially filed the retirement paperwork so he is not officially retired... so this is more of the team leadership causing this situation...

+1 - Great post.

As a guy at work said, Brett Farve is a victim of Brett Farve. If he would have been public with the Moss trade stuff, with the March comeback that wasn't, or hell, even with this one in the beginning stages, it would be the Packers.

But it is evident to me that he's doing what he's doing because he's Brett Farve.

And yeah, he played good ball last year, but it is also because of number 4 that the Packers did NOT go to the Superbowl last year.
