| No Sanity, no problem. | Ya, once people really start getting into paint balling they drop about 1000k on their gun alone. The main purpose to owning a real firearm as I said would just be for a hobby. My friends dad owns several weapons he just collects and sells on gunbroker.com. | If you live rural ... then something in a rifle that has accuracy and reasonably cheap ammo would be the way to go. If there are alfalfa fields in your area ... then the farmers have a hard time with prarie dogs and often supply people with free .22 ammo to help them get rid of the Ground Squirrels. The varmints eat $5 per day of their crop. If you liked paintballing ... you may enjoy helping the local farmer. If a .22 ... then a ruger 10-22 or a JW-15 by Norinco. [Copy of the CZEK BRNO] Or most any .22 rifle ... Remington etc Otherwise if you are going the "collector" route ... there isn't much "collector" values below $800 Solid target practice rifles that you can hunt with that have reasonable cheap ammo. The AR-15 Family of rifles with a 1 in 8 twist barrel. Or if you plan on bagging an Elk ... the Mossburg .270 at Wallmart for $350 ... ammo isn't super cheap ... but it is accurate and has a very flat flight path out to 700 yards. It really comes down to what you are planning on doing with it. Usually guys that have thousands and thousands of dollars worth of great collectibles ... get more joy out of a $150 .22 rifle and a few varmints. |

| No Sanity, no problem. | I've never considered prairie dog hunting but then again in northern Illinois, all we got is soy bean and corn crops year round (in my area at least). We do plan on moving up to Wisconsin in a few months though and they are one of the US's leading providers of alfalfa. Thought I don't intend to shoot at anything bigger then that living wise. | Chances are there are Prairie dogs around. It is a lot of fun and a civil service. A 10-22 with a few 30 round banana clips and a decent 3X9 scope will outfit you just fine. A JW-15 Bolt action and open sites will get you to a 1/2" at 50 Yards. Last edited by Tech Geek Deluxe; December 3rd, 2007 at 15:30. |

| socket 939 junkie | before i joined the army about 15 of my buddies and i used to play wood ball. weapons ranged from Tippman 98 customs, Tippman A5's, a few spyders and even an Automag and an Angel. i used a 98 custom with a phreak barrel system, M4 retractable buttstock and i upgraded the pressure system (cant remember the name of it, but the hose for the O2) sold it all before i joined the army. kinda wish i still had it.... | No Sanity, no problem. | Sounds like you had a good group Simple. My cousin has about 13 other buddies and their own speedball field. A paintball field here went out of bussiness and they just sold all of their bunkers and stuff in bulk. For like $1000 they got half the fields equipment. Though a prarie dog can be patient, I don't know of any who hang around waiting for you to shoot again if the first round misses. I got a 10-22 laying around here somewhere with some 20 and 30 round magazines but for the pure enjoyment I will take either of those old Remington .22 anytime. Those or a nice sweet little pump (slide action) rifle. Ron | |

| i remember my first time with live ammunition and firing range with my godfather, it was really fun, he let me finish off one box of 60 bullets, 15 in each mag and it was a .45 caliber pistol custom made for him by the Phillipine Police... he died 2 years ago from heart attack, he live by the gun and died of pure heart...
