I have never owned a NEC drive but I have heard great things about them. You can't beat their price. They seem to be the best bang for the buck right now.
Yeah, i'd be willing to try another model of Plextor, but I don't want it to end like the PX-706A. Besides for the moment I don't need a "better" DVD burner, I don't rip, I burn only or mostly. What I like too with NEC's is the cool modified firmwares you can find on the net. Liggy and Dee firmwares are simply awesome if you're backing up your personal movie collection/audio collection and don't want to be limited like with the original firmware.
Plextor has plextools though, a quite handy utility when you know how to use it, I hear.

Nothing really to disagree about.... i just stated a fact, I've RMA'd three of their drive MULTIPLE time over the past two years.......A total of seven drives in two years isn't my idea of quality.
I've had the same NEC drives for well over a year of heavy usage, and not a single issue or bad disk. I also look at the fact i can buy three oe four NEC drives of comparable performance for the same price as a Plextor....
But anyway, back on topic

The sound card. It's a great card, but for an ultimate PC you'd want optical sound. Might be worth it to pe a premium and get the front panel.

LOL talking about XFX, it really doesn't help it (I never really liked them from the start), I ordered a few vid cards for the holidays and the XFX ones that came in all had something broken i'm not kidding. The 7600GS silent had a broken retention pin so the heatsink would fall, the 7600GT PCB corner looked like "chewed" and the 7300GT made lines in any comp.
I really have no luck with XFX. I don't know exactly why all the XFX cards we receive have something, it's not like I was ordering them from the same place to top it off. =|

I see XFX is releasing OC'ed versions of the GTX and GTS, didn't nVidia "ban that" after the 7900GT fiasco?

That video card is a joke though, there's no way i'd pay that much for a 7900GTX. ;D

Thats not a gaming Video card, and a total waste of money even for an Ultimate PC. I would go with dual 8800 GTX in SLI.

750GB for storage isn't enough for the Ultimate PC. I would use 4 750GB HDs in Raid 5.
