Well I'm at my friend's place, and it looks like it'll be a complete wipe, install of XP Home, finding drivers and that will do it. Cost = $50!

Thats why I used linux as much as possible so I don't have to worry about anything going wrong. It works and it works well without the need for extra maintenance or security programs.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I'm hoping to get a second HD installed as well, so I can install Linux on it. Or get my HD partitioned into two parts, one for Windows, and one for Linux.

Yeah, I need to get my linux box back up and running... actually, I have it assembled again, but i need to clean off the desk in my room to make room for the monitor again. So... yeah.

I'd love linux to play around with, but this 200gb hard drive is getting quite full so I cant really afford to install linux

I'm posting this update from home. My rig is running, but I am downloading the driver for the sound. Until I get it installed, no sound for me.

Also, I'm thinking of getting either Chris TV or BeyondTV for this rig, as Win TV, the current installed TV program is tough to configure, and doesn't work with satellite. I also have to get a driver for the remote.

I am running XP Home SP2 on this now (and have a second free partition for a Linux distro, probably Ubuntu), so no Media Center to make things easy for me.

Total cost of fixing my rig: $177.45. Next time I think I'd better be more careful!

I saw this article today.... New Massive Botnet Twice the Size of Storm - Desktop Security News Analysis - Dark Reading

Apparently it's already gotten bigger than the storm botnet.... and it sounds depressingly like what happens with this attack in this thread (the whole get you to open an image that's actually a .exe). I think it's high time for me to reinstall windows, lol.
