Okay, youv'e confirmed what I suspected, I'd have to do. The only thing that I haven't done is the CPU removal. I'll do the brain surgery tomorrow or Thursday. Thanks!

It could be a minor as a loose screw vibrating when the optical drive spins up...

I'd be hard pressed to ID that sound from here, but this is what I would do to localize the noise.

Take something round and long, you boys get your heads outta the gutter!, like a paper towel roll tube. Whatever you pick, just make sure it doesn't conduct electricity. Then, place the end of that tube on the different components in your system and put the other end to your ear. A solid tube will also work. Something solid may even work better than a hollow object.

This is a trick I use when working on engines. Works quite well.

That would not neccessarily mean that the RAM is causing the noise, would it? At least until you remove the sticks, and try running the mobo again, see if it persists. At least then you could definitely nail down whether or not it's the RAM causing the noise or not.

I think I checked the system with the mem out and the noise was still there. Later today or tomorrow I'll try it again ane use the megaphone idea. It's much saver than getting my hair caught up in a fan. Thanks!

I am betting it is still just a fan, either a NB/SB fan or a loose case fan

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I am going to mention something that no one else has brought up yet. It's possible you might be getting noise through your case speaker. Your case speaker might either be bad, or its picking up noise from the motherboard. Try disconnecting it from the motherboard and see if the noise goes away.

Well, it's still alive. I used the paper towel roll and found out that the noise was the system speaker!!!!! I ordered this MB with the cpu installed. I think I'll do it myself from now on. It has always had a temperature. So I used the artic silver and installed a new heat sink (gig's 3D rocket). It is running much cooler but I do not know how to find out the CPU temp except through bios. Now, back to the speaker- what would make it create that weid sound and still be able to produce the proper start-up beeps?

I very thankful to all of you

Mary

a small piece of electrical tape to cover it up should help silence it...

It's probably just a messed up speaker. Is it one that is attached directly to the motherboard or can you disconnect it from the front panel IO pin headers? If it is built onto the motherboard, then you could try attaching a separate speaker to the front panel IO pins and see if it disables the onboard speaker.
