Default Project Summary

Ok I am all done I hit a few snags but over all it went pretty smooth.

MAIN RIG
Lian Li PC75
AMD 64 X2 4400
Corsair XMS 2 GB DDR,
EVGA Nvidia Geforce 7900GT CO
Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum,
ASUS A8N SLI Premium
Enermax Liberty 500w (New)
Plextor PX-708
Plextor Plexwriter Premium,
Western Digital 74 GB 10 K RPM SATA Raptor drive
4 x Western Digital 250 GB 7200 RPM SATA in Raid 5
Windows XP SP2

My Plan on this Rig was to Swap out the Enermax 550W Whisper II and replace it with the Enermax 500W Liberty. I also was planing to swap the A8N-SLI Premium with the A8n32 SLI Deluxe. Well when I fired it up I was having power issues. After some troubleshooting I figured out that the A8N32-SLI Deluxe was demanding too much power, on top of the 5 HDs, 2 Optical Drives, 4400 and the 7900GT. I put the A8N-SLI Premium back in and the power issues went away.

This is what it looked like when I started

Putting in the Liberty

Turning the HDs around in the Cage to hide the wires better.

After I did some Cable Management. I put in the Aluminum Mouse Pad to help hide some of the ugly cables you could see.

All Done

RIG #2
Cooler Master Wavemaster Silver
AMD 64 3700
ASUS A8N32 SLI Deluxe
EVGA Nvidia Geforce 7600GT CO
Enermax 550W Whisper II
1GB Gskill DDR
Pioneer CD/DVD-R Dual layer Combo
WD 320 GB HD SATA
Windows XP 64bit (Will install Linux Later)

I ended up putting the A8N32 Deluxe in this machine. Due to the High Power consumption of the MB, it played nicer with the components in the machine.

SERVER
Blue Chieftec Dragon Full Tower
Dual Athlon MP 1200 CPUs
Tyan Tiger S2460 Dual CPU MB
Nvidia Quadro 2 64mb AGP
512mb Viking PC2100 ECC
Enermax 350W PSU
WD 200 GB HD IDE
Samsung DVD Drive
W2K3 E-Server

This Rig went the smoothest out of all three. I picked up a Front Panel USB I/O panel and a DVD Rom Drive for it today.

This was my 15 min Build (Screwball) Only thing missing in this pic is the Drives.

Overall the three builds went fairly well. Other then the MoBo Power issue.

Can't say I've ever seen anyone put the drives on the bottom before. Pretty nice rig! :)

I like the 4.25" I/O panel you have. Do you have a NewEgg link to that? I'd like to see how much it'd set me back :)

I don't think it was power issues, even with all that stuff, that rig wouldn't even come near drawing 500watts of power.

Nice rigs btw.

You mean in the Hard Drive Cage? Thats where Hard Drives go in that case.

Which I/O Panel are you talking about?

You don't think So? Well that was the Problem. Because when I disconnected 4 of the Hard Drives it booted just fine.

Good thing I was the one troubleshooting and Not you.

$25 at Newegg
For 250GB WD Caviars

Power dissipation - Read/Write 9.50 Watts x 4 = 38watts + 10.02 Watts for the raptor, so about 48watts power draw. Assume the HDs draw even more then that while starting, lets go with about 80watts max from the HD during start. Even then it still wouldn't come close to maxing the 12v/5v on your PSU. Sounds more like it was an HD vs. Mobo issue

Dude I know what a Power issue acts like, I have almost 20 years experience with computers. Thats 5 years longer then you have been alive. When I want your help I will ask for it.

Besides even if you were right the fix would have been the same. So its a mute point anyways.
