Between the two orientations I saw no difference in temps on the chipset, voltage circuitry, or anything else, and you can see the green fan better this way!

I know it's not the most high end build ever, but I'm really loving it, I can't believe how awesome Crysis looks! I used to think Oblivion looked awesome on my 7800GT!
I didn't expect a huge difference but what I see is the the HS over the NB looks like flow would be better bottom to top even the PMW HS is larger on the top and the way the fins are orientated flow would be best again bottom to top. With either of these Heat Sinks if you were to place a POS fan on them you wouldn't place it at the side blowing on it aginist a wide flat surface rather you'd place it where the flow would be through all the fins. Further I see a back flow problem at the I/O plate that is to say a huge portion of the air being forced in to it with out an opening to release the flow. I admit the dual rear 120' would help with this but not as efficiently IMHO. Now I know this is quit fussy but so is lowering your voltages .02% after reaching a stable OC to achieve the same and lower temps or crankin out +10 FSB more or tighting timmings on the RAM. Its a tweak to have the best overall performance. I'd be willing to bet though, at full load for an extended peroid of time you would notice a difference all be it modest.
In any case You are right about the lighted fan, it shows better the way you have it and for the record i think it's one hell of a build Saaaweeeeet.
