there are 2 main reasons...
1) as this is a budget build, I wasn't looking to go high end or high overclocking
2) looking at the comparisons for the same brand memory 667 vs 800, the 667 always had the better reviews on several ordering sites I looked at.

THIS is the memory I am getting. The reviews for the 800 were less than spectacular (much worse) than the 667.

Again as it is a budget build, I didn't see any need to go with $250-300 DDR2-800

Thanks HL and Corsair!

yea... that is a problem. but I've had good times with my ddr2-800. I even (accidentally) overclocked it to about 1000mhz before it started acting funny. And it was only when I added another 2gb to it when it started acting wierd.. LOL

This ram is epic. I haven't been beaten loading in CoH but once since I got it. I have all settings where it depends on CPU and Memory are on high or ultra (if applicable).

'course having 3gb of pwnage ram is very good. Only thing on my compy that's slow is my 6800. And thats still pretty nice :) Just has problems rendering smoke in bf2 (drops down to about 50 fps)

Yeah well I shouldn't have any issues, I am getting the X1950GT :ridinghorse:

The funny part is my current Xp3000+ has no problems rendering the smoke or anything else on medium (but I keep it at 1280x1024)... except when there are the damn arty attacks that shake the whole screen.. then I lose major fps

With the 8 multiplier for the E6400, a 1:1 ratio overclocking the CPU will put you at a 1333FSB. That translates to a 2.66Ghz CPU clock. That's before you even begin to overclock your ram. While I'm no fan of PQI products, you should at least get moderate overclocks out of it, so hopefully you won't be limited to 2.66Ghz on that CPU. That would be a shame.

You've put together a nice little system. I've used PQI with mixed results.....runs fine at rated speeds or with a mild O/C, but I wouldn't really count on any spectacular O/Cs out of it......which means its a perfect choice for what you want.......plus when you decide to O/C things you can loosen up the timings or use a divider

Just to clarify,, one certainly need not (and shouldn't) spend $250-300 on DDR2-800. Unless tied to a specific brand, the cost difference between DDR2-667 and 800 is almost nil. Newegg sells several kits of DDR2-800 for $175 shipped, and even as low as $161 if you're into the rebate game.

I was looking at that 800 and based on the reviews just decided against it. I am also not planning on pushing it much above the 2.6GHz OC as this will be a long term machine and not just something to play with for a few months not caring if the CPU dies in 4 months.
