Holy Crap! My PC is already giving me a headache, and it hasn't even been powered on yet! I got it all together then couldn't find my Win 98 so i could upgrade to XP. Then today i find my copy of 98, go to plug everything in the back, and my moniter doesn't plug into the damn thing, as it's got the wrong connection. Then i look in the Mobo manual, and i see the mobo supports Win 2000/XP. And to top it off as i was typing this my damn keyboard died!

Anway i gotta couple of questions:
1. If in the motherboard manual it says supported OS's Windows 2000/XP does that mean i can't install Win98 (as i only have an XP upgrade)in order to install XP?
2.What's the connection i need to plug my moniter (which has pins in the connector) into my Graphics card (XFX 8800GTS), which has white square hole connections
3.Can someone give me a hug ....

Okay no hug but got some answers:

XP Upgrade: What you do is boot off the XP CD and do the install like it was an OEM. Along the way it will ask for a 98CD. Put in the CD and point the system to it. Once it sees the CD the install will continue after you put in the XP CD. Done this trick a thousand times.

Monitor Plug: Welcome to the 21st century and the digital video interface. You can get a DVI to VGA adapter and that wioll solve the problem for you.

Okay I did a quick confirmation you can use an adapter with your card and there should have been two of them in the box.

You do not have to install windows 98. All you have to do is start the XP install like normal. You will be prompted to insert a previous version of windows. You stick in your 98 cd, let XP verify it, then XP installs like normal.

Like Computer-Ed said Your video card should have come with adapters.

the adapter will look something like this

http://www.pctronix.co.nz/images/DVI2VGA.jpg

that particular one is a "LeadTek" one, but the XFX will be very similar, and probably a light gray colour (from what ive seen in the new packages) or potentially black.

thanks for the answers.

LOL I thought the monitor connections came with the GPU , was thinking XFX screwed me, but the connections were just hiding, also borrowed 98 from my neighbor and got XP on. Everything seems to be working...............except for the USB and Audio Ports on top (antec 900)

Also should my big typhoon be spinning all the time, or just sometimes like it's doing, and is the fan control for it tied in with the case fans, or is it the metal knob on the top?

The USB ports are easy to hookup so should not be an issue. I have found MOST front audio does not work as it is supposed to so i usually ignore them.

The auto fan controller of the motherboard will be adjusting the fan speed. if you plugged it into the inboard header then turn the fan on high and let the board control it. If you want control turn off the BIOS fan control.
