Default Re: New PC

Cache is not nearly as important as some make it out to be.......if the difference is only $10, go for it....

As to the video card..... alot of people are caught up in the DirectX 10 marketing.....here we are at the end of April....and DX10 games are nowhere to be seen. I believe by the time DX10 games are showing up with any regularity, the 8800 series cards will be old news......The 8800GTS supports DX10 (when games start showing up), it is quite a bit cheaper than the GTX, and to be perfectly honest you should be able to play any game on the market with the settings cranked.....Paul just did two very fine articles covering 8800GTS' from both Foxconn and eVGA....check them out on the main page.

i was just lookin at the PC store near me's site, there a new 6420 2.13GHz

Computer Alliance
$30 extra (as of now)

and heres the 6320 1.86GHz
Computer Alliance

do you know if the E6400/6420 is good at OC'ing like the 6300 is, also in one of your posts you said ""The E6600 has a bigger cache, but the E6300 OCs better, and nearly as far very easily."" Do you mean it OC's to the same speed as the stock E6600 or it can OC to almost the same speed as the E6600 can OC to?

edit:would the E6320 being a E63 CPU have the same OCability as the E6300?

When the price drops take effect on Monday, the E6600 will be around $225, which should make it a very attractive CPU...... If your plan is running your system at stock, or some modest OCing, the E6600 is a good choice. If you are wanting to tweak and tinker, you can buy the E6300 and OC the hell out of it, it will usually hit 2.8-3.0GHz with some decent supporting hardware (good motherboard and memory). I personally use my E6300 on my testbench because it OCs so well...so easily. The E6600 usually goes to around 3.0-3.375GHz, depending on the supporting components and your cooling.

I haven't had the chance to mess with the E8320 or E6420 processors yet, but to be honest, if the difference is $10-20....spend the little bit extra for the newer design......

This is a great build, I would look for the VX model of the BT so you get the fan control. Also be sure you get a 4 pin extended for the motherbaord so the cable will for sure reach.

With this build you will need to put on the heatsink and the 4 pin extension before you mount the motherboard. The Big Typhoon makes it hard to get to the top back corner.

When I made my build I had to leave the top back screw out of the mainboard. if you have a really long and narrow screw driver you could work around that.
