OEM is CPU ONLY. No included heatsink. Retail includes the stock heatsink. Get the OEM and save a few bucks if you are going to use an aftermarket heatsink. There also might be a difference in warranties, but I'm not sure.

Boxed(retail) have a 3 year limited waranty. You can read about their warranty info HERE and for OEM directly HERE. It looks like it's up to the vendor who sells you the processor to determine the warranty on the OEM processor

Asus M3A78-CM
4GB Crucial Ballistix
EVGA Akimbo 8800GT - 1024MB

Here's the final build minus mobo, and disc drives! I cant wait to build it with my son.He will be coming over tomorrow afternoon to order up the parts! I decided to stay with FSP on the power unit because of the wiring group/length.

(2x) Newegg.com - Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Newegg.com - Acer AL2016WCbd Black 20" 2ms(GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 800:1 - Retail

I would like to add a PCI type slot cooling fan to his build to blow on the GPU since it is my understanding that it runs hot.Any ideas there?

Newegg.com - EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
why not go with this 8800gt and oc it? It is cheaper before the rebate than the one you have listed. 3 of my last 4 cards have been EVGA and I must say they all have worked well.

The only difference is that an OEM processor doesn't come with the stock HSF, and has a 1yr warranty.....the retail comes with the stock HSF and a 3yr warranty

INTEL QX9650 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 8GB PC2-8500 // BFG GTX260 MaxCore // DD Torture Rack // Seagate 750GB HDD // OCZ Vendetta // PC Power & Cooling 620W PSU

Thats a really nice looking system

Why don't you upgrade the case to a ANTEC Nine Hundred and let me send you a cooler from the test bench?

And the sad part is,when you buy the retail with HSF,you dont use the fan,and it sits in your house in a box brand new because nobody wants it,and you spend $25 for it to sit there.
I would think that 1yr is fine for warranty,it either is going to work or it's not?

Ok...if I go that way, then I surely dont need the Tracers and can drop the pricing by just going with standard Crucial stix.
