From what I gather Paul, the driver crashing can effect any system but is more perversive on 680i motherboards. The reason for this I'm still not sure, may have something to do with the way the northbridge handles the RAM.

I figured it not too serious about what is said at times on newegg.....sometimes where there is smoke, there is fire.I just want to be bloody sure of something before I commit is all.I hadnt read the results as of yet about the card tests.I have never used anything but nvidia and have never had a problem with 3 I have owned. Just cautious about getting away from it.That card is priced rite for sure though.I will mull it around with my spawn and see what he thinks.

I've had problems with my video drivers stalling with my 8800GT when using 169.21 under Windows XP. 169.28 fixed those problems it seems. Under Vista x64 there was no problems whatsover.

That's an understatement. I spent way too much time researching (and experiencing) this and other 680i related quirks. And I can buy that it's somehow related to or linked to the 680i's handling of RAM, which is awful.

In my own experience, the only difference between system A (which was affected) and system B (which was not) was the motherboard. The OS and all other components and drivers remained the same.

Would I be better off using this processor?
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - Retail
vs.
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Retail

I dont know much about the Quads but if its better, for just a few $ more....

I may be able to go with 2 smaller GPU in SLI with a different board.

Only get the quad if you do heavy multitasking and play games like Crysis and COD4 (which take advantage of a quad-core).

One bigger GPU is better than 2 smaller ones in SLI. (i.e. get a 8800GT instead of two 8600GT's).

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 + Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme
DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL + Thermalright HR-05 IFX
2GB G.Skill 800MHz F2-6400PHU2-2GBHZ
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
Silverstone Decathlon 650W
Western Digital 250GB SATA II

Oh, don't get me wrong, the E8400 will run Crysis and COD4 fine, but it will be even better with the quad.

My opinion: the Q6600 and a 8800GT.

What is the difference between these 2 CPU's OEM/Retail?
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - OEM

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor - Retail

Which is better if there is any difference?
