Yeah...more like lock the doors and put the children up for sale at that price. Looks like I'll upgrade to the 790i here when I can grab one off ebay for like, half that.

i only mentioned it because i'm highly anticipating its arrival to the US. its been released in europe and i think canada.

as with all new tech, the early admission fee is high but will eventually fall as more 790i boards hit the streets. but of course none of this takes away from the fact that its going to be a killer board.

It may be a wicked board, but it isn't justifiable for me to spend $450 on a motherboard when mine is doing perfectly fine and it's performing the way I need it to for everything.

That's the key to upgrading. You know you need to only when you're requirements are greater than what you have access to.

As to the motherboard, I'd recommend an X38 or X48 as the first choice, with an 790i as an alternative, depending on the board and availability.

The processor.....I just picked up an E8400 for testing, and without much effort or special cooling it runs 4.22GHz with 100% stability. Considering they are the same price, I'd take the E8400 or Xeon E3110 over the QX6600 without any hesitation.

Given the high budget, I'd also build around DDR3, which takes you back to your board choice......a good kit of 2GB DDR3 memory can be had for less than $200 now.
i asked about the cosmos in my first post. i want quad core. lot of windows open single core not getting it done.

i rather get ddr2 i can get 8gigs of ram for $200 aren't 64bit os more ram intensive? Vista Workshop: More RAM, More Speed | Tom's Hardware

ill probaly get a 9800gtx and oc it.
i don't need all the features of ultimate premium is right for me.

Yea yea thanks, but you'd be surprised how many people lose sight of that and then they wonder why they have no money.

Many people need to have the obvious kicked into them nowadays.

The thing is for your machine to be able to recognize and effectively utilize more than 3.25 GB of physical RAM, you need to have a 64-bit OS. Between a 32-bit and 64-bit, "RAM-intensive" doesn't really apply. What does apply though, is the obvious article title in that link (lol at polo) - More RAM, More Speed is the most obviously title ever, and I find it kind of a stupid title, but it's a good article.

What it boils down to is Vista, more than any other OS ever, is extremely RAM hungry. It's simple - the more RAM you give it, the more it will give you.
