thing is that video card is just an uneasy price; it's that good. you have to get that.

also, in light of that, if you will be gaming, you'd want to have XP for sure, or at least Dual Boot XP/Vista. Vista just doesn't support all the games fully yet, so play it safe just for the time being.

now, if you aren't gonna game...hmm..GET THE 1950PRO lol I, along with almost anyone else cannot stress how awesome of a deal that is. and, it will work WONDERS with Vista. ur in the perfect position now where all the parts you can get (including Core 2 Duo and 2GB of RAM) can last you a long long time, and you have a CHEAP solution for a high end DX10 card that you will be upgrading in a few months, so you don't have to feel crappy about going and spending 250-300+ on a really kickass DX9 card now, and then having to do it all again for a DX10. use that card's life as LONG as you can.

again, as said, that Gigabyte is a wicked motherboard. you'll really enjoy using it, and the value is unbelievable. only thing is be weary of it lacking SLI support. if you look to run SLI exclusively, then just be cautious that you're gonna need a new motherboard, and DONT get the P5B Deluxe because it only supports 4x in its second slot. you want one that supports 16x/16x, like the ECS or eVGA 680i motherboard (...oo im dreaming now...damn hardware geeks:P) - but thats a different conversation.

p.s. about the Core 2 Duo - the E4300 is the same thing as the E6600 with 0.06GHz lower clock speed, but a higher multiplier, so it usually OCs MUCH better and runs a bit cooler because it has the higher multi and there is no need to increase voltage as much.

make sure you're grabbing a good cooler. CNPS or Big Typhoon. (i didnt want to say CNPS9500 or CNPS9700 cuz i dont know which one Capper prefers)

yeah i already grabbed that 1950pro for $149

i just thought id show you all my options to show how great a deal i got lol, it was the only benefit i could get from the place i work at, apparently we only work with ATI

so yeah now i got the case, and i got a X1950Pro 256MB

ive never had a problem with ASUS or Gigabit boards and ive used both so i dun really mind, ill go for the better deal

processors yeah ive been looking at the PentiumD's for awhile because even a pentium D would be lightyears better than this AMD1700 lol, but i always have my eye on C2D because its such an amazing chip, and i usually look at the 6300 when I do, but if you have a better idea, and you've given some let me know

im getting a western digital HDD from a friend too, so i should be fine there

just need the Mobo, Processor really

edit: oh durr and the Ram, and yeah id love to get 2gigs of Corsair or something lol, i was just saying 1gb to keep the price down, but i guess i should just go fer the 2 now instead of getting 1 and upgrading later lol

Yeah the choices are tought because budget might force some things on you however the best choices are listed and a bit more expensive. On one final note, I would consider an SATA DVDR drive. I love mine, cable management is so much eaiser.

Also with the Nine Hundred case buy an extension for your 24 pin and 4 pin motherbaord connector. They will help with cable routing a ton.

Next week I am going to gut my Nine Hundred and start over on the build and see if I cannot post some tips for better cable managment, I have seen some things in the case I have not seen mentioned before and thought with the popularity of this case it might be a good artilce to do.

Indeed, the 4 pin extension is a very good idea. Made one for myself (though it burned, bleeeeh) and it was really handy to keep the clutter away.
Depending on your motherboard power connector locations though it can still be painful routing it over the board, so close to the 200mm, with no place to tie it.

Gonna experiment with a simple wire sheathing idea as well, electrical tape. I mean you can buy it in all sorts of colors. Just wrap the whole length neatly in electrical tape and you get the benefit of rht sheaths with out the cost or hassle. I am all about the budget ..
