Question, if your going to switch everything to your old PC why would you need the mobo with DDR?

When you upgrade to a better mobo down the road in a few years, DDR3 will be the base memory, so you won't be able to use that gigabyte mobo anyways..... I'm all confused here............

Do i have to install drivers for everthing, like the mobo/hard drive and memory? or is it just Drivers for the Graphics card?

ill deal with that headache when it comes i guess :)

With vista, I've had really good luck with drivers. The only things I have to install myself are Sounds, Graphics, and my mouse drivers, the rest installed themselves, and the default drivers were plenty good. And the only reason I need a sound driver was because I was using a discrete sound card... my integrated installs on it's on.

I was talking about if i decide to go to quad core in say two years, i would probably be upgrading the CPU Mobo and Gpu on the computer i'm building right now, and i would take the Gigabite mobo, and E8400 that i'm buying, and put them in my older computer since i would no longer be using them on my up to date 2010 pc.

To be compatible to switch these parts to the old pc, it needs DDR2 ram, not just DDR that i currently have

You'll have to install the drivers on the disc that comes with the mobo, and the Video card, then do windows update.
Thats pretty much it though, everything else will install by it's self in Vista.

Let us know when you get the parts! We'll walk you through on how to build the PC. Make a worklog to so we can follow the progress, we here at HL love pics, wait thats LLLOOOOOOOVVVEEEEE PIIICCCCCCCCSSS!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Oh ok, got it........ wait, if your going to put the gigabyte mobo in your old pc then you do not need your other mobo with DDR memory.

@theburen, thats one thing I really like about vista, is that it installs itself practically!

Actually, when I reinstalled vista this past week, I didnt even have to bother with the mobo's driver disk, the nic, chipset, etc. etc. etc. all installed itself fine.

Biggest problem with installing vista is that it (at least vista 64 has this problem) doesnt like installing with 4 gigs of ram in it at once... dunno if that's fixed with sp1 disks though.

Yip vista is awesome that way.... wish XP was like that.....

Yea, thats one thing i've never understood with vista.....

@diabloplayer, I just realized, you won't need vista 64-bit since your only gettin 2gb!!
I would recommend XP 32-bit then, or if you really want vista then get the 32-bit version.

Yeah... it's really frustrating when you're putting a computer together at 10-11 pm, and forget about that little fact, and can't for the life of you figure out what's causing the bsod's until you wake up in the morning and go .

Yea know what, scratch that. It's only $10 cheaper going with Vista 32-bit....
But then again I like XP more than Vista because of it's performance gains.
