You can get a brand new top of the line $5000 setup and something will make it outdated "technology-wise" within 6 months. This is what computer builders deal with all the time. Set what you want, what you expect out of it now and for the next year and what you need, then buy it. The more you second guess yourself or wait for something better, you will end up in an endless cycle of waiting for something better. Get something that will handle everything you need for the next 12 months and upgrade in a year or two if it needs it, depending on your usage.
Based on the parts you are choosing, that build should hold up well for minimum 2 years.
For perspective, my AthlonXP 3000+ system is still going strong today. Sure it can't play Crysis or some of the newer games but it can still handle HL2 and most everything else I toss at it (provided they aren't new games).

Thanks HL and Corsair!

An AMD HD3870 is pretty recent, and is a good card. But I'd still recommend a 8800GT or 8800GTS (512MB) over the AMD card.

The mobo is good.

Seriously though....I like the Antec 900,alot.
The memory kit you chose is great.

Newegg.com - Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST3500320AS 500GB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

Due to the 32MB of cache (as opposed to 16MB) it's a bit faster.

I finally got around to getting that HDD, just installed XP...man that baby flies, way better then the hunk'o'junk WD 8mb SATA1 160GB I was using before. Took about 15 minutes to copy a horde of MP3s before, now takes about 7. Love it.

If you order today, Newegg will ship the stuff on Monday. If you order Monday, Newegg will ship Monday as well (although they may ship Tuesday). It's up to you.
