| ohh i see, but its alot more just for that. didnt the old AMD's have unlocked multipliers? ive got an old 1.0ghz athlon sitting gathering dust, might experiment OC'ing with that. |

| its may be the fastest on market but how can they scam people, the core 2 can easyly be clocked higher then stock maybe reaching that or over 3ghz. how can they sell a product for so much more? |

| Modder-ator | Well "easily" is a pretty relative term. Most people are not overclockers, so many people would consider it a fair price to get a chip that is guaranteed to run at 2.93GHz. It is inte'ls product, so they are entitled to charge whatever they want for it. They could charge $1,500 for it if they wanted, but obviously they would have to lower the price because no one would buy it. Apparently there are enough people buying it that they are willing to keep the price high. |

| well at that price they wouldnt need to sell many of them to make a profit |

| Modder-ator | But theoretically, it costs more for Intel to produce these high-end processors because it is nearing the fastest speed potential of the chips and not all yields will run that speed stable, but the chances of it running slower speeds stable constantly increase as the speed gets reduced. So the chance of getting a Core 2 Duo die to do 2.0GHz is a lot better than getting one to do 2.9GHz with the same voltage. In essence, the X6800's are more rare than the others... |

| Colonel Calamity | I would suggest the 6420 myself, best bang for the buck in a budget build ![]() Thanks HL and Corsair! My opinions are my own and not representative of this site or its members. |

| 6420 would be real nice. The 6320 is very nice as well, for a bit cheaper. If you can wait till July 22nd, you could get the Q6600 for only 266 dollars. Which is CRAZZYYYY. At anyrate, the X6800 are special handpicked top of the line cpus out of every batch of a 1000. They get the honour of being priced the highest.
