Some OEMs do, some don't... I know with HP, Compaq and Dell, you have to pay extra for it since at least '02 or '03

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Well it doesn't have a restore option. It just has F2-Setup and F12-Boot Menu. Pressing F9 doesn't seem to do anything, but I guess it doesn't really make much of a difference since I found all the discs that came with the system. Now all I have to do is wait for my mom to tell me what she needs to keep and voila! A couple hours worth of waiting and it should be working just fine!...

Although, XP was recently reinstalled because I had Vista on there and it wasn't working out, so i had to restore it about 2 months ago... (sorry just remembered :O)... but it was slow even before that, so I guess I'll try it anyways and hope for the best

Yeah, you got to it before me. Your Dell reinstall disk will be either blue or purple (probably purple). Just pop it in and boot it from the CD via DOS (hit F12 for Boot Menu when you have the option and choose the CD drive).

If you need any more help with your D4600, just ask. I know all of Dell's lineups like the back of my hand.

- ATi Radeon X1900XT 256MB
- Cooler Master Centurion 5 + OCZ StealthXStream 600W
- Acer 19" P191W Monitor
- Logitech Z-5500 Digital + Logitech MX Revolution

What is the amount of system RAM?? is it 256?
If that is the case, you really need to upgrade the system RAM!
When windows XP was first implemented it would run on 128mb of RAM, but didn't like it, so it would do much better on 256. Well as time went by, and a ton of updates came along, now XP can hardly run up to par on 512!
Another thing that will help with slow systems, is get rid of all the fluff in XP, and go back to the basic look of Windows 98. To do this, right click on "my computer" go to properties, Advanced. There you will see three topics. The very first one says "performance", and has a setting tab within the box. Click on the settings tab and now you will see four more setting: "let windows choose what is best for my computer", "Adjust for best appearance", " Adjust for best performance", and "custom"
Just click the "adjust for best perfomance" and click apply.

If you do not have this set yet, this should help a ton!!!

well, i already did the whole reset and its doing a lot better. i WAS thinking about getting more RAM though, so i guess that's my next step. all it has is 512. setting it back to normal will just have to wait until i get more (RAM)

haha one problem. on login, the username and pasword box pops up. I tried switching it so that it automatically logs in but it won't let me. it said somehting about BCMlogon.dll

is there any way that i can change that? My system has the same settings and she doesnt do that. I tried deleting the file (very smart move on my behalf) to no avail.
