I just built my own HTPC. Wanted to use the new 750 gig hd until I saw the price. I then opted for two 400 gig hd's. A tad more capacity for less than the price of one 750.

Intel E8400 @ 4.05GHZ - EP35-DS3P
Zalman 9700NT - 4 Gig Mushkin DDR2-1066
Two Sapphire HD 4870 512mb in CrossFire
PC P & C 750 watt - Samsung 216BW LCD
Samsung DVD-RW - Logitec Z-640 speakers
Linksys WRT54GL Router - CM 690 Case
Seagate 250gig - Vista Home Premium 64bit

Then yesterday the price of the Maxtor Pro series 500GB drive dropped to about $150.

x1900xt would be the best buy for a media center pc. (Avivo) I'd skip the 2gb of ram and go straight for the C2D, just like everyone else has said.

I don't think my motherboard supports C2D... It's a ASUS Emery board...
Sounds like I could get 2 500 GB drives for the price of a single 750 GB...cool beans!

The chipset is Intel i945P, and the southbridge is the 82801GB (ICH7). Does this chipset support C2D?

Yes, according to Intel, the 945P chipset should support Core 2 Duo processors...

woot! Then I'm gonna go look in my BIOS and see what the maximum FSB rate is...hopefully I can get a good proc...it's a Pheonix 3.15 BIOS for your info.

Apparently the FSB is automatically controlled. I wonder which C2D proc would be the best bang for the buck? I'm in favor of the E6400 myself.

I'll have to go with a PATA Harddrive...looks like there is no SATA ports. Looks like in the BIOS I can switch between PCI and PCI-E...whatever that means? Help with that feature please.

You should be able to turn on/off overclocking. It might be a locked option until you choose the right thing.

As for not having SATA ports, you have to have SATA ports. I know for a fact all i945 chipsets have SATA. I have the same chipset myself.

It lists all the ports, and there was no SATA ports, just PATA because that's all I saw, Primary and Secondary...I remember that's only for PATA.
