It just seems a bit overkill to get a 550W power supply. The computer in the wishlist at full load would take around 230W.
A $30.00 Antec EarthWatt 380W would be more than sufficient to power this and 3 additional hard drives if needed.
The only downside is that the EA 380W only has 2 SATA power connectors but it has 6 Molex nonetheless.

After looking at the MoBo I suggested again I realized it didn't have a gigabit NIC. If that's something you require you might look at something like this
Newegg.com - ASUS M2N-VM DVI AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 7050PV Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

or this
Newegg.com - Foxconn A7VMX-K AM2+/AM2 AMD 780V Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - AMD Motherboards

It also only had 2 sata ports =/

How does this one look?

Like I said, you could be running up to 6 HDD's and 1 optical drive without problem. It's up to you, it's not huge savings by any means.

Okay this might sound like a dumb question but WHY?

What can't you do that you need a server?

What do you plan on using this server for?

What are the benefits of a home server?

For that matter this could be for business I don't know.

I have a PS3 it is a media server. Two of my systems are MCE XP also media servers. I have extra HDD's in all systems that are for backups only. They are all networked together printer too. I can sync files through MS exchange etc. My phone service is through comcast always on and battery backup. File sync through software. I have DLink ..... Extreme N router w/ wifi Gamer Lounge Router and a Giga Switch and many option built in. Through windows DHCP RPC VPN etc etc all available.

I can understand the always on, low power solution and mabe that's what it's all about.
Who wants there OCed high power unit running 24/7 but please tell me in your own words.... Why?

Also I've read about the Linux based home server also free what are your thoughts on it? A good how to here.....
How to build the Ultimate Linux Home Server - Part 1

Why have any external storage device?

A NAS allows easy access as storage to files and media to anyone on the network. Why lug multiple external drives around, when you can have a central network wide storage center?

I think a NAs box is a great idea if you want to stream music or movies, or just store files.

BUT, I think most people would tend to overdo it and use hardware well in excess of what they really need.
