I believe they connected through a Molex connector.

I don't claim to be an expert on fans, I used the Artic fans because they were recomended here for their low weight. Personally I can't detect any difference in the noise level between the Artic 12L and Artic 12. I like the fans and I have bought 8 of them ( I built 4 identical computers in the last month with 4 more to do ) but keep in mind I don't have experience with any other fans. I do however have a comment about the fan on the northbridge of my EVGA 680i motherboards..... it roars. Is there a cure? If I stop that fan my boxes are more than 50% quieter.

You can always find an aftermarket HSF to replace it with. You can even get a cooler without a fan, though it will have large fins that stretch up. I'm not familiar with your board but some manufacturers got in the habit of putting their NB chipsets directly under where your video card is going to hang.

You could ghetto rig a different fan onto the northbridge. Or, a better idea IMO, is to take the fan off altogether. The GeminII in my own experience does an excellent job of cooling NB already.

The eVGA 680i SLI chipset fan is optional. If you have a good enough airflow or you don't plan on breaking overclocking records, you can safely remove it. As yellowhello noted, the GeminII does a good job at cooling the northbridge chipset too, so I'd say you're safe. :)
