Re: Building a new comp for HTPC use OK, I guess I jumped the gun. When I start thinking HTPC I just assumed you would be using it for almost everything. If you ever decide to give up TIVO there are some other great options out there (hardware and software-wise). I use SageTV on my HTPC. I can do everything through it however since my surround sound is also a 5-disk DVD player, we tend to usually play our DVDs through that directly. I run everything to my Sony HDTV. You shouldn't really run into any problems using a DVI to HDMI converter cable.
The 6800GS is just fine. I was not saying it would be bad, in fact I think it will be just fine as long as you have sufficient case cooling. I was just trying to provide a fairly low cost alternative by suggesting the 7100GS (again, that was only under the assumption you did not have a vid card yet).
If you need any recommendations in the future regarding capture cards then just ask but for now it sounds like you have a good plan for what you plan to use the PC for.  |
