The video card is fine.....stick with known brands and you'll be fine....eVGA, BFG, XFX are typically going to be your best bets. always look at the warranty before buying.

INTEL E8400 // Gigabyte EP45 Extreme // 4GB DDR3-1600 // Palit HD 4870 // Antec 1200 // Seagate 750GB HDD // Zalman CNPS9700 // BFG ES 800W PSU

Ya know, if you want to get REALLY cheap, the E1200 is a great choice... I've been using one in my main rig until my E8400 RMA gets sorted out, and it's fine for web browsing.

E8400
DFI Blood Iron P35-T2RL
4GB G.Skill 800MHz
Sapphire Radeon HD3870 512MB
Silverstone DA650W
WD 250GB + Seagate 320GB

Hmm, I think I'd like to keep it above Celeron. Thanks anyway.

Any other complaints, advice, or alterations?

I have played CS:S at 200 fps on a similar system so it should play BF2 quite easily. The system is the wifes now and it has the E2140 and a Gigabyte P965 board with 1GB DDR2-800. I think I went with the Biostar 7300GT to save a few dollars and the video card would rarely be strained.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

Cool. Sounds great to me.

Hmmm. Recent turn of events.

I'm going to get:
GeForce 8600 GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3
Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (together for $39.99 AR instead of $53.98 AR as aforementioned)

I was wondering if a 2.0Ghz Allendale would then be a problem in slowing the potential of the system down? I hadn't intended to get a graphics card of that stature (being a budget machine).

nope
If my E2140 can handle CS:S with a 7300GT at 200fps, the only time you may see a bottleneck is with media encoding and Crysis... otherwise it should work well.

How big of a difference in potential do you think there is between the 7300GT and the 8600GT?

There is a MAJOR difference when it comes to newer games between 8600GT and 7300GT.
The 8600GTS is about the same level as the ATI X1950GT, and the 8600GT is a step lower in terms of benchmark scores. The 7300GT will see half the benchmark scores of the 8600GT.
The only way to really get that extra step up is to get a 8800GT if you plan on playing any newer games. Otherwise the 8600GT should work fine for your usage.
