I think that's a good route for a secondary computer. You got a good deal on it, and since you're not going to be the primary user, there's no need to muck about with building from scratch. Plus, it's a Vostro, which is cool.

| Functional Alcoholic | Never had an issue with Dell support or Sales, but I only use the Government Sales numbers. I always get reps that are based in the U.S. |

Dell support is not bad for what most of us would need it for. For actual troubleshooting their support (in my experience) leaves a lot to be desired. For getting defective parts replaced they're usually pretty good. Assuming you bought that Vostro through the small business devision, the support will be much better than from Dell Home.

Yeah it's small business line with a fairly small case. I'm not concerened about power, I'll just send it back if they sold me something that can't power itself. Cooling is the main thing I'll be keeping an eye on.

Yeah I opened it up and it uses the standard dell 1 fan for the whole case. It has the plastic cover over the sink of the CPU that "directs" the heat out to the 1 back case fan. I'd worry if you were gonna game on it. It doesn't have any real vents besides the rear vent.

I wouldn't imagine the cooling would be an issue as there won't be any overlocking the machine, and I doubt (though it's not beyond the realm of possibility) that they would sell a machine that would overheat from the factory.

HP did, twice! ZD7000 and ZD8000. I moderate an HP Laptop forum and im a personal user of both of those. Overheat/melted GPU. HP's since offered free repair in the USA for display issues with the ZD7000 and i got a dv9500t as a replacement for my 8000 melting.
