I would assume there is a way to install 2 and 3 at the same time... I just have not done the research to find out for sure.

Thanks HL and Corsair!

I've recovered most of my extensions. Some don't fully work yet but they either got alternatives or you can make them compatible without breaking FF3.

Run Firefox 3 Without Affecting Your Existing Firefox 2 Settings
Might interest some.

I got FF3 installed (changed install folder to Firefox 3) and FF3 picked up the 2 settings and addons but they are still in separate folders. Now if I want to run 2, I just close out FF3 and use the link to 2, no problem. BUT... if 3 is open and I open the link to 2, it opens a second FF3 window.... so I have to completely close 3 before opening 2.
they also have their own removal options in Add/Remove programs.
this was XP SP3 so i am not sure how well this works in Vista.

I was having the same issue, to fix it I had to uninstall FF2, reboot, delete the firefox folder, reboot again then install FF3.

Just install FF3 in a different folder then FF2. By default FF3 just installs over FF2, but if you use a different folder you should be able to use both. I haven't tried this so I don't know for sure.

thats what I did.... and posted it in my last post...
luckily all the settings and bookmarks are shared across both... only one plugin doesn't work in FF3, FireFTP

I even got an email about it:

We did it!

We set a Guinness World Record for the most software downloads in 24 hours. With your help we reached 8,002,530 downloads.
You are now part of a World Record and the proud owner of the best version of Firefox yet!
Don't forget to download your very own certificate for helping set a Guinness World Record.
