A good wardriver will have well over a 10dB antenna and push a hole right through your home cloud. Encrypt. Trust me on this ... we used to RV every summer 15K miles over 3 Mos with the Kids. I always brought my 14dB Patch antenna and 2 ea 200ma PCMCIA wifi cards and cables that attached to it. The stuff now is much better ... heck my Alpha with a 9dB antenna can rack up signals in a 1/2 mile radius line of sight and perhaps 100 yards through a few walls. 50 Yards through several walls. This I know for absolute sure.

When it comes to a Wardriver that knows what they are doing, there is no real protection against it (another reason I don't like wireless). There are script kitty programs out there that will brute force WPA in a matter of minutes. I was referring to the amateurs with no more then a wireless card in a laptop looking for open connections. Quite a few people that use wireless in their homes (like my in-laws, that won’t let me secure their signal) just plug in their router and leave it unsecured with default settings.

Good luck breaking WPA-AES or WPA2-AES.

I would be willing to bet that 8 out of 10 people who have wireless don't use anything higher then WPA if any encryption at all. 9 of the 12 wireless signals I pick up in my neighborhood are wide open.
