Some Linux distros like Fedora run around 4.6-4.7GB per download.
2GB per day? between work and online games, I probably break 4-5GB per day.

and I have not seen any notification or emails from Cox about this so it has not taken affect in my area.. or maybe because I have a rate that has been grandfathered in from using them for almost 8 years straight I won't get hit with it....

We will see

Thanks HL and Corsair!

All I've been able to find about caps on Qwest (and this is buried in a .pdf file on their site) basically states that they do have a traffic allowance, and that if you exceed it, either pay for more bandwidth or reduce your usage to a more reasonable level. There's a link to a company/office site that has more specific info, but I can't get into it, so who knows what it is...

Yup, just what I was saying. It's a perfectly legal use yet you're breaking the limit.
My ISP did not hesitate one second to put a limit on mine, even if we've been clients with them for over 12 years for TV cable, then for Internet and more recently cable phone.

If you make any changes to your rates (such as adding digital VoIP phone service), it gets changed from the grandfathered rate to their new rate that becomes subject to the new limits.

We've took cable phone after IIRC.
Anyway, we both know that what they want is your money, and down the road, you have to bend over and bite a pillow.

I don't see anything about "Grandfathered" rates for Cox, you got a link?

no but I have a $30 per month rate (before taxes and such) that I pay each month for the same thing as what everyone else is paying $45 for per month. Of course they won't place it online because other people may see it and start asking why they have to pay more for the same service.

Well, Qwest put an indefinite cap on everyone today - they had some kind of outage, and so our service was down completely for most of the day. We had to call their TS (i.e. India) to see what was going on, and they just told us they have been getting calls from a lot of people, and that there was an outage, and that they had people on it, so I guess it was widespread. But, obviously, we got service back now.

Anyone else get affected by this?

I deal with Qwest all the time since they are a high speed partner provider and their connections have to be one of the worst, right up there with Embarq. Half the time they mess with our connections or block installation with us, or delay it a few weeks so the people get fed up and go through them directly... in areas with Qwest or Embarq DSL, I tend to suggest cable or FIOS connections if possible.

Cable or some other provider may be a possibility for us. We had land line phone service with them until we got rid of the land line altogether in favor of just using our cell phones, but they are still charging us for long distance service. We need to talk to them about that. After we cancelled the LL number, they gave us some random phone # for the DSL acct, and they've told us that we need some 12 digit passcode in order to access our account online, but after asking for it twice, we still don't have one. We were unaware that we were late with our bill, so they sent us a disconnect notice that we got two days after the disconnect date. So we've spent most of the weekend trying to pay the bill, but no one is around to take our money, and we can't get into the acct to pay it online, because they never sent us that code. The interruption we got had nothing to do with the bill - that was their fault, but we've gotten to see their complete lack of customer service - with the exception of the girl from India who told us about the outage.
