| 5 Minute Mod Man | Ok Carp, you're gonna love this.... I think I fixed this whole mess. Before I added the second NIC, I apparently had setup a residential gateway, for internet access... I was running all computers through the Xterasys router with that 1 NIC and then it was the only thing connected to the Vonage router... So anyway... the residential gateway was always looking for that Xterasys router's local IP for internet access.. So... when I added the second NIC the PC kept looking for that IP... Then if the NIC connected to Xterasys was disabled, so was the residential gateway, that is the only time the PC would look to the NIC connected directly to the Vonage router. So, I just reran the home/office network wizard and selected 'this pc is connected directly to the internet' and then selected the appropriate NIC (#1) that connects to the internet. Then the wizard asks for the NIC that the network is on. So then I selected NIC#2... I am betting this will solve all the issues and get this PC to finally do everything I want it to do. I ran the route print just to make sure. Everything went out and came back in through the vonage local IP. So now I think I am finally set! I will reply again if anything changes... |

| 5 Minute Mod Man | uhg .. what a pain... Ok. In the wizard I originally selected the option "this computer connects to the internet and other computers in this network connect through this computer".... This sent all internet traffic through nic#1 but (I am guessing) it was assuming all network PCs would have to start 192.168.15 so then I still couldnt access my other PCs on the network via NIC#2... LOL THIS IS FUN... I had to go through the wizard again and it doesnt exactly give me all the options I want. I just selected 'other' at first... then i selected this computer connects through a hub and so do the other computers on this network... Well then I noticed it re-setup the residential gateway and then both NICs were sharing internet access AND I access the other PCs in my network. So then I went into the xterasys admin setting and disabled internet access for the main PC. Now my network manager is showing all internet access going to NIC#1 and I have access to all network PCs via NIC#2 ... I just hope I am not making it do extra work by having it try to still access #2 some of the time. It is the xterasys router blocking the internet access of NIC#2, not the Main PCs internet settings... But at least it is doing what I want it to do right now... Also, I changed the setting on NIC#2 to just include the IP and the subnet mask, without a default gateway before blocking internet access and it didn't fully block it... weird thing is that now I re-enabled internet access through the xterasys router and it is still doing everything i need it to do ( I left those setting in the nic#2 tcp/ip properties that u suggested). Home LAN traffic is thru NIC#2 and internet thru NIC#1... FINALLY!! (or so I hope...again) |

| Right on! It sounds like it is working at least most the way right, which sometimes is all you can ask for. There should be no problem with sending occasional traffic through Nic2 as you should have plenty of free bandwidth through your Xterasys router. Darn unknown variables, I knew something was seemed weird. Well I wanted to try and earn some networked cred in the forums and help some people out. I hope started that with you PRO. At least is sounds like you learned some things which under the right circumstances is a good thing. | 5 Minute Mod Man | I guess you just couldn't stand by any longer and you wanted to reply in here Well all is still running well, very little traffic through nic#2 and 99%+ through nic#1 (with the exception of all network traffic is obviously going through nic#2).. Now my only minor issue is that I may have to remove that nic#2 in order to install my Zalman VF900 cooler on my video card... but that would mean this thread was all for nothing and I just can't bare to do that ! ![]() |
