Okay first a bit more detail please, what kind of cooler and case and what kind of room temps are we typically looking at. Also you said you are using speedfan for temp readings which of the readings are you using?

44C to me seems a bit high for idle and I would think it would not leave you a lot of overclocking headroom.

Evan I might have missed this, busy day going today, what processor are you using?

Also since you did not post a specific model for the Soprano case I am presuming the basic model. I am not 100% familiar with the case layout for this case, does the side fan placement make it work like a CPU vent or is it over the video?

The reason i ask is the FIRST thing you want to do if you plan to do any level of overclocking is ditch the stock cooler. If the side fan works like a CPU vent then take out that fan and use a Big Typhoon VX cooler. If it is lower and over the video then you might want to look at a Thermaltake V1 or Zalman 9700 cooler.

Was gonna say your idle temp seems high but considering the processor maybe not. I never overclocked a Pentium 4 or D because they are so hot out of the gate. All you can do is slowly raise the FSB and see where it will take you.

THE FSB adjustment is in the BIOS. Each one is a little different so you need to look a bit. If the fan is only offset by about 3 cm then I would think a Big Typhoon should get a good pull on the air for cooling. TTPete is the guy to talk to about that here.

Ed I went into bios.. Advanced/Chipset config/Default config Override/FSB Voltage Override- was on default but had the options of -1.271,1.33 & 1.395... so set to 1.33... Also noticed MCH Voltage override (V-Core?) which was on default with options of 1.725,1.650,1.600,& 1.525...
Left on default - one thing at a time I suppose... Couldn't find anything else adjustable relating to FSB... CPU temp now 46-47C @ idle...Cheers- Evan

Okay first leave voltages on stock for right now, our goal is an overclock that will not need to up the voltage. There should be something for changing the bus speed, that is ALL we want to mess with right now.

You want FSB frequency override.

What stepping (revision) is your 940D?

CPU-Z will tell you if you're not sure. It will either be B1 or C1.
