Its still a work in progress....once i get caught up on reviews, i'll be able to break it down a little more, and show various results to support my conclusions.

I thought it was just something that would be helpful to get you started, which is why i posted it.

MCH is the part of the NB. ICH I always set to 1.2V, ever since ICH6.

Here is a little tip for a nice system boost, I don't know how much OCing you do but setting ICH(Southbridge) to 1.2v allows the PCI-E bus frequency to be raised to about 110MHz. Anything over 110 and things can get very unstable. ICH controls all the storage, PCIE and Ethernet ports. I think it controls USB to along with firewire.

And everything unites at the NB...

An "orthos" question. Instead of starting with core "1", my computer starts with core "0". 0,1,2,3. During the test, Orthos said....
"warning Affinity Mask: Process: 0x3 Sys:OXF" in the little progress box. When I stopped the test, 9hours later, the summary read...no warnings, no errors.

Is this anything to be concerned about?

Nope perfectly normal, just how it's supposed to be. You are running 2 instances of ORTHOS right, with the affinity set to use all 4 cores?

Yeah, 2 instances. Looks like I had to up the v-core to 3.00 to get 3.21 hz. (357 fsb). So far temps on core temp and TAT are maxing out about 46-47 under 100% load.

I don't want to push the v-core too far, because I'm keeping the OC for daily use. How much more can I push the v-core (if the temps stay below 60 under 100% load) on this GO Stepping before I'm out of the "normal" range?

I've read where you can go up to 1.5 but I'm sure thats too excessive.

According to INTEL, 1.5v is the maximum "safe" voltage for a G0 Q6600. however i believe that you'll run into temperature issues before you reach 1.5v. if your unsure, a general "safe" value i use is to go no more than 0.1v over stock for a 24/7 overclock. so say stock is 1.25v, i wont go over 1.35v.

Okay I will take that 3.00 number as a typo/ For 24/7 operation on air I do not feel safe @ more than 1.45v. I run my kentsfield Xeon at 1.3875.

Orthos: Open 2 instances, then open your task manager. In the task manager, click on the "processes" tab. Right click on the first instance of Orthos and select "Affinity", then uncheck the boxes for Cores #2 and #3. Right click on the second instance and select "Affinity" for the second instance.....in this one, uncheck the boxes for Cores #0 and #1.

As to core temps, I don't recommend more than 1.45V on air for 24/7 usage.

Yeah, that was a typo. I meant to say 1.300, but I spoke too soon. I had errors after 9 minutes. I have it at 1.325 now I think and 357 fsb for 3.21 mgz. the temp under full load hangs about 55-57, depending if the furnace kicks on or not. since I don't game and I probably will never have it under full load for anything...I can live with that. the temps should get a little better with time because I just installed the quad with fresh arctic silver yesterday.

It looks like I got a good OC, 2 instances of orthos have been running for 7 hours now. I'll probably leave it running overnight, to make double sure.

I copy and burn alot of dvds. for those who are interested...I shaved 2 or 3 minutes off my encoding time, just at stock speeds on the quad. I'm going to encode a movie and get a more accurate time once the stability test is over with...and I'll report back.

Thanks guys, for all your help!!
