It looks like it is stable at 3.6ghz. It will boot up to 3.8 but isn't stable.

I'm not willing to push the vcore up unless I get the temperature issue resolved. I have to believe that the diode in the cpu is reporting the temp wrong since the bios and speedfan both show temps much lower than normal 25c-35c.

I also can't bring myself to even consider the advice given earlier about cutting a trench in the IHS to install my own probe.

Is there any other acurate way to check this temp?

LOL, you don't have to go to extremes to monitor your temperatures. I have yet to see someone actually drill a hole in their IHS for a temp probe!

Just get yourself a 9$ temperature monitor and use a little piece of thermal tape to hold the base of the probe down so the tip of it is touching the outside edge of the IHS and the bottom of the heatsink and that is gonna be as good as you are gonna get...

Thanks for the link.

I assume we would all be in agreement that my 30c in the bios and 24c idle in windows has to be in error?

It does sound pretty low, especially for an overclocked Pentium D...
Maybe try downloading Motherboard Monitor or SpeedFan and see what those applications report. What are you using to monitor your temperatures in Windows?

I have checked it in speedfan.....pc wizzard.....and nvidia monitor......they all show the exact same temp. So I would think that either it is correct, or the diode is damaged.

I am still on auto vcore voltage in the bios though.....I never had to raise it. So that is the same idle temp I had at stock also.

You probably mentioned it, but what heatsink and case do you have?
