Frosty ... getting a very high number like 3.6 is easy ... even with testing ... the issue is whether it holds stable in real world game play ... it won't usually [Unless they got a great core]

Whatever Chip core you end up with has its max capacity ... refine it without fatiguing it.

I typically run a few tests, play a few games, try a windows install with it, then tone it back some and use the PC ... If I get odd or unstable behavior ... I walk the overclock down a bit more .... [Hate BSOD]

I wouldn't push it. You don't want to fatigue your CPU beyond what you may have already done. Though voltage to 1.35-1.365 might be reasonable to make stable where you are at.
Yep, I like CoreTemps more than the Nvidia monitoring software. It's pretty accurate (but there is one way to really test that) and it has a small footprint.

I don't know how long you plan to have this CPU, but even if your temps are good, you still shorten the life span of you CPU with higher volts, regardless. I plan to upgrade CPU's sometime in '08, so I don't really care if I run my CPU at 1.46V. But if you plan on having this CPU long into the future, I'd be pretty conservative with how much voltage you pump through it.

i noticed that my primary vidcard was around 72 degrees playing Crysis. I know there isn't a SLI patch out yet, so its just killing my 8800 at the systems specs I played it at. Im wondering if that was the casue of the unstable ness, My video card has never risen that high before. The lower 8800 was only 56 degrees and the top was 72'ish..... man Crysis is hard on the system....... Im still gonna play a bit.... but i final question before I go and punish my kids for pulling my Plasma tv off the wall in the livingroom.... If I did pop the CPU, fryied it or whatever... is it just a matter of popping in another CPU ( a new one) and Im off and running again?? Please don't get me wrong, or get the impression I have a wad of cash sitting here waiting to be invested in new chips..... I was just curious since all the settings and windows and such is on the harddrives, then it really should be that easy right??

You might be able to just drop a new CPU in with the same Windows installation, but most likely you will have to reactivate Windows. I had to when I got my new motherboard, but it's no big deal. Just call up Microsoft and explain the problem to them and usually they will give to a new activation key right over the phone.

Also, sometimes if you replace a dual-core with a quad-core or vise-versa, Windows won't detect all the cores or might detect them incorrectly. In this case, the only fix is to reinstall Windows.

remember this OC is a draw of luck not every Core 2 or quad are built to be able to reach such high clockspeed without comprimizing voltage and heat issues...

i've seen a lot of people like mine that need needs 1.46 volts to reach 3.024ghz mark, and this is with WC already and temp with both ITAT Coretemp and SpeedFan at 35-42C idle and 48-53C 100% load with ITAT or Orthos load... and to top that i'm using a 320MCR Rad by swiftech... with three Antec Tricolor Fans...

I take it your products must have been made on a Friday... LOL.... inregards to the high voltsageas u need to get to 3ghz. Thats always been a joke around here... you never buy something that was made on a Monday or Friday,,, Monday ur still all bent outta shape the weekend is done, and Friday, well, you just don't give a F%^& cause the weekends here!!! :) If im not mistaken I think you can tell what day ur car is made somewheres by reading your VIN number.... :)

thanks for the help guys....
