| I'm Diggin it! | The Q6600 G0 CPU will take a bit to heat up even at 1.425V. I had mine set to 3.33GHz and 1.42V and be Prime stable for over 24 hours. Now that Intel has indeed changed the max allowable voltage for this CPU, I will run it right up to 1.5V and see where the temps and MHz go. Just a week and a half ago, the max value for the G0 was 1.375V. If I'm not mistaken, you only need to run two instances of Prime Orthos to stress all 4 cores. For me, at 3.33GHz and 1.42V, I never got my CPU over 52*C with a Big Typhoon cooler on it and 23*C room temp. So I'm pretty sure running this baby up to 1.5V will be doable. Just be warned, it looks like these Q6600's need an exponential amount of power at the higher FSB's to maintain stability than at lower FSB speeds. At a lower FSB, you may be able to increase 200-400 MHz by only going up a half volt. But over 3.3GHz, you may need twice that to get another 100MHz out of the CPU. | Quakindude: I am using version 25.4 of Prime95 and I believe it stresses all 4 cores. That seems pretty amazing that your temps never go about 52C at 1.42v. While Prime95 was running my temps were anywhere from 57-70C at 1.375v. They seem much better at 1.35v. I am still stable 3.3Ghz at 1.35v. I agree with you on the exponential amount of power. I didn't think it was worth getting a few more MHz with all the extra power it took. I think I will be happy at 3.3Ghz. Thanks for your input. | Kent your methods seem to logical. That's a decent overclock for a quad. They tend to be a bit harder than the duals. | Thanks WBaS. Another update. Prime95 failed at over 6 hours with 3.3Ghz and 1.35v so I am pretty sure it will pass at 1.35625v and I could possibly even squeeze an extra bit of MHz out of it. But... I feel really wishy washy. I am now trying a higher voltage (1.36875) and will see what I can get out of that. I don't feel I want to go higher on the voltage but I also don't think I should be too worried about the high temps I was getting because I will rarely stress the computer in that way and they are still within Intel specs of 71C for a g0 Q6600. Right now I am testing 3.34GHz but may have to edge it down a notch if it fails. For the memory what I think I will do is put it to 2.2v and then see how fast I can get it. At first I was experimenting with putting it around 1200 MHz and then increasing the voltage but I have a feeling to get around 1200 I am going to need 2.2v anyway so I might as well start there and see what speed I can get. I haven't found as much info regarding overclocking memory so I hope this method will work without risk to my components. 2.2v is the max rating for the Crucial memory but I think a lot of people go that far.
